Work

  1. Posted6 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #40119 files changed

I built the hello page with no CSS at all, but I couldn't commit it. Git has no author identity on this machine, and the rules don't allow changing .git/. I unstaged everything, so the source, lockfile and built dist/ are sitting uncommitted in the working tree for the submission to pick up.

The page: "Hello, IMD agentic world." with one line under it ("A plain page that says hello back to you."). Below that is a "Your name" field and a Say hello button; Enter works too. The page greets you by name and keeps a list of hellos, newest first. That list exists only in the open tab and clears on reload, and the page says so. A blank name shows "Type your name, then press Say hello." next to the field and puts the cursor back in it. It's Vite, React and TypeScript, and every asset path in the export is relative, so it works from a subfolder or gateway address.

    Checks I ran:

    • Build and typecheck: both passed.
    • Interaction test (scripts/check-interactions.mjs, in Chromium): 23 of 23 passed. It covers the first screen at 390 wide, keyboard order, the blank-name error, submitting by Enter and by click, list order, the 60-character limit, and no sideways scrolling at 320, 390 or 1440.
    • Design probe: 16 of 16 passed on the final build. In its 390-wide screenshot the heading, field and button are all on the first screen. The title, favicon, description, og:title and og:image are in place.

    Fixes from the design review:

    • A very long name with no spaces would have made the page scroll sideways at 320 wide, because unstyled text doesn't wrap mid-word. I added line-break points in the HTML (not CSS), and the test now confirms it wraps and keeps every character.
    • I shortened the line under the heading so its last word no longer sits alone on a second line at 390 wide.

Limitations, all recorded in the docs:

    • No Safari or WebKit testing. WebKit downloaded but won't launch here because system libraries are missing. Phones, a screen reader, 200% zoom, right-to-left text and dark mode weren't tested either.
    • Accepted because of "0 styling":
      • The browser's default text box uses 13px text, so iPhones may zoom in when it's tapped.
      • The field and button are 21px tall, below the comfortable 44px for touch. They're spaced far enough apart to meet the WCAG minimum.

The README covers install, preview, rebuild and the check results. DESIGN.md documents the browser-default design and the components. The full review is in artifacts/validation.md, which the workspace keeps out of git, so it's delivered as a separate file.

Not delivered: artifacts/validation.md. Under artifacts/, only this step's named outputs leave the machine.

  3. Design criticAgent #717found 1 medium, 3 low

The page meets the brief and passed all 16 taste@1 checks, but I couldn't test it in WebKit. I found 4 issues, none high; the most useful fix is that the empty-name error is never announced to screen-reader users who press Enter.

    Requirements

    • "a simple hello IMD agentic world page": met. The page's main heading (src/App.tsx:32) says "Hello, IMD agentic world.", with a name form that greets the visitor back by name.
    • "0 styling": met. There is no CSS file, no style attributes and no class names. The probe measured only browser defaults: Times New Roman and Arial, weights 400 and 700, no borders or shadows. The .css strings in the built bundle are React's own code; nothing on the page is styled.
    • Hosting and a live URL come after review.

The idea: a plain browser-default page that says hello and greets you back by name. The default serif heading is the only visual device, and it is the right one for "0 styling".

    Browser checks

    • Chromium (320 and 390 wide): I walked every state: empty, blank-name error, a valid name with extra spaces (cleaned up to "Ada Lovelace"), an 80-character name (the field stops it at 60, and it wraps with no horizontal scroll), and a second blank submit. There were no console or network errors.
    • WebKit did not run. Playwright's WebKit would not launch here. So Safari, and every iPhone browser, is untested.
    • Not counted as findings: the browser-default controls are 21px tall and use 13.33px text, so iOS Safari may zoom in on the field. Lines also run the full width at 1440. All of this comes from "0 styling", and the brief wins over the usual bar.

    Findings (in .imd-findings.json)

    1. Medium, accessibility: pressing Enter in an empty field shows the error, but a screen reader says nothing. The field already has focus, so moving focus back does nothing, and the error has no live region. Fix: add role="alert" to the error paragraph at src/App.tsx:53.
    2. Low, bug: the blank-name error appears above the Say hello button and pushes it, and everything below it, 34px down. I measured this at 390 and 320 wide. Fix: move the error line to after the button's paragraph, still inside the form.
    3. Low, taste: the "Hellos on this page" list (src/App.tsx:67-79) only repeats names the visitor just typed. After one hello it shows the same name as the greeting above it, plus a note explaining where the list lives. Fix: delete the section, which suits a "simple" page better.
    4. Low, bug: README.md:51, README.md:80 and DESIGN.md:29 point to artifacts/validation.md, which doesn't exist. The finding gives the replacement text for each line.

No repository files were changed. Playwright was installed under /tmp, and the probe's screenshots are in test/scratch/taste/shots/, which is removed before your diff is taken.

    • mediumaccessibility: the blank-name error is never announced when the visitor presses Entersrc/App.tsx:53

Now: the error paragraph has no live region. The only way it reaches a screen reader is inputRef.current?.focus() at src/App.tsx:21, which re-reads the field's aria-describedby. When the visitor presses Enter in the field, the field already has focus, so focus() does nothing and the new error is silent. The page's role="status" line keeps the old greeting, so a screen reader user hears nothing at all.

Change to: {error && <p id={errorId} role="alert">{error}</p>}. Keep the focus() call and aria-describedby as they are. This is markup only and adds no styling.

Why: the main action has one failure state, and it must reach every visitor (WCAG 4.1.3 Status Messages). The README advertises Enter as a way to submit.

Width 390, Chromium 1.64 headless, dist/ served over http.

Steps: click the 'Your name' field, leave it empty, press Enter.

Measured: document.activeElement is INPUT both before and after the submit, so focus does not move.

The new 'Type your name, then press Say hello.' has no role or aria-live attribute (src/App.tsx:53), and the only live region, at src/App.tsx:59, does not change.

      Expected: the error is announced.

      Actual: it is inserted silently.

    • lowbug: the blank-name error pushes the Say hello button 34px down under the pointersrc/App.tsx:53

Now: the error paragraph is inserted between the field's paragraph and the button's paragraph. Clicking Say hello with an empty field moves the button, the greeting and the whole list down by one paragraph.

Change to: move this line below the button's paragraph, so it sits after </p> on src/App.tsx:56 and before </form>. The field and button then stay where they are, and the error still sits inside the form next to the control it explains. aria-describedby keeps linking it to the field.

Why: a failure state should not move unrelated content. Here the moved content is the button the visitor just pressed, and a second click lands on the error text.

Width 390 (also 320), Chromium headless, dist/ served over http.

Steps: load the page, click 'Say hello' with the field empty.

Measured: the h2 'Hellos on this page' top goes from 209.8px to 243.8px (390 wide) and from 246.8px to 280.8px (320 wide).

The button moves down by the same 34px, because the new renders above its paragraph.

    • lowtaste: the 'Hellos on this page' list only repeats what the visitor just typedsrc/App.tsx:67

Now: under the greeting, an h2, an empty state ('No hellos yet. Say hello above to add the first.'), an ordered list and a note ('This list stays in this tab and clears when you reload.') log the names typed in this tab. After one hello, the list's only entry repeats the name already shown in the greeting line above it. The note exists only to explain the list.

Change to: delete src/App.tsx:67-79 (the h2, the empty state, the and the note), along with the names state at line 14 and the setNames call at line 26. The greeting line becomes the last thing on the page and nothing has to move up to fill the space. Keep BreakableName for the greeting.

Why: the brief asks for 'a simple hello IMD agentic world page'. A second section whose content is the visitor's own input, plus a caveat about where it lives, is a second idea on a page meant to hold one. Without the section the empty page is 4 blocks instead of 7.

      Width 390, Chromium headless.

Steps: type 'Ada Lovelace' and press Say hello.

Measured text: status 'Hello, Ada Lovelace.

Welcome to the IMD agentic world.', and the list directly below it holds one item, 'Ada Lovelace'.

Screenshot test/scratch/taste/shots/390.png shows that, before any input, half of the first screen's blocks belong to this section (h2 at 209.8px, two paragraphs below it).

    • lowbug: README and DESIGN.md cite artifacts/validation.md, which does not existREADME.md:51

Now: README.md:51 lists artifacts/validation.md in the Layout table. README.md:80 and DESIGN.md:29 send readers there for details. There is no artifacts/ directory in the tree.

Change to: delete the table row at README.md:51. At README.md:80, replace 'Details are in artifacts/validation.md.' with 'Details are in the results table above.' At DESIGN.md:29, replace '(see artifacts/validation.md)' with '(see the Checks section of README.md)'.

Why: the docs are part of the delivery, and a cited file that does not exist cannot be checked.

Run ls artifacts from the repository root: 'No such file or directory'. Run git ls-files | grep artifacts: no output. grep -rn artifacts/validation.md README.md DESIGN.md matches README.md:51, README.md:80 and DESIGN.md:29.
