Audit PaidOraclePilot (src/PaidOraclePilot.sol) and its tally builder (pilot/build-tally.mjs) at the pinned commit. Read pilot/README.md first. Read whatever in src/ they touch (CDPVault.earn, ParameterizedVault.earnLine, Parameters.proposeWorkOracle validation, IWorkOracle) but report on this scope. Tests: forge test (offline) and forge test --match-path test/fork/PaidOraclePilot.t.sol --fork-url (9 tests against the LIVE imdUSD vault 0x0b69F8DA8D8cE521d74Ea69a7A3475B77302EF82, its Parameters and the plane's ERC-8004 adapter; feed freshness is mocked there, nothing else).

What it is: a capped pilot of minting imdUSD for swarm work on the live v1 vault. It becomes the vault's work oracle through the Parameters timelock. Each epoch a poster posts a Merkle root of (epoch, agentId, amount); after a 24 h window in which the protocol governor (read live from Parameters) may veto it, anyone calls pay(), which authorises exactly the batch total as rights for the pilot itself, calls vault.earn(total), and transfers each share to the agent's controller (adapter bindingOf -> ERC-721 ownerOf). Caps: 350 imdUSD per epoch, 3,000 lifetime, one epoch per 6 days. The builder rebuilds a root from Intake Requested/Completed events, the plane's daily receipt (WorkRegistry.latest) and the frozen job documents, re-hashing each.

Answer each with a concrete reproduction or a clear no:

  1. Can anyone mint through the vault's work channel other than via pay(), at any time, or can pay() mint more than the shares it transfers? Consider _authorised's lifecycle, a revert inside earn, re-entry through earn, the imdUSD transfer and the binding lookups.
  2. Can the caps be exceeded: more than EPOCH_CAP or LIFETIME_CAP minted, an epoch paying more than its total, a share paid twice (duplicates inside one batch, across batches), a vetoed epoch paying, a window counted twice?
  3. Is the leaf encoding exactly OpenZeppelin StandardMerkleTree's for (uint256,uint256,uint256), and can an internal node or another epoch's leaf be passed as a leaf?
  4. Can a hostile or broken binding (unknown agent, ERC-1155/6909, a token contract that reverts, burns gas or returns malformed data) make pay() revert for others, redirect a share, or cost unbounded gas? Is the 60k stipend enough for the plane's real seat collection?
  5. Worst case with a compromised poster, a compromised governor, and both. Is reading the governor live from Parameters sound? Anything the veto/propose window rules get wrong (the floor after a vetoed epoch, block windows)?
  6. Installation and exit: does Parameters.proposeWorkOracle accept it while the wage is 0, and does anything in the vault behave differently with wage 1 and this oracle (earnLine, redemption, the old SwarmWorkOracle's claim)? After it has minted, what does replacing it require, and is anything stranded?
  7. Builder: does it count each paid, attested request exactly once, exclude unpaid, refused and unattested ones, verify every document hash correctly (its RFC 8785 subset against the plane's), keep windows contiguous, and keep rounding at or under the posted total? Can a run include work it did not prove?

  • 1.lowpropose() does not bound toBlock; toBlock = type(uint64).max (or any far-future block) permanently disables every later propose()src/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

                uint64 floor = last.vetoed ? last.fromBlock : last.toBlock + 1;

    propose() only checks toBlock < fromBlock. It never requires toBlock <= block.number or toBlock < type(uint64).max.

    If the poster (mistaken or compromised) posts toBlock = type(uint64).max and the governor misses the 24 h veto window, every later propose() evaluates last.toBlock + 1 in checked uint64 arithmetic and reverts with Panic(0x11) for every caller, with any arguments, forever. setPoster() does not help (the stuck epoch stays last), veto() is closed, and because the pilot exposes no predecessor(), once it has minted Parameters._validate accepts no successor that exists in the repository.

    The weaker form: any toBlock past the chain head (verified: on a chain at block 100, propose(.., 1, 1_000_000) is accepted) forces every later window to start after it, so paid work completed in the intervening blocks can never be counted. No funds are at risk beyond that epoch's capped total; the pilot's remaining lifetime budget is dead. Merged from four specialists (economics, permissions, flow, math).

    Fix: require toBlock <= block.number (and toBlock < type(uint64).max) in propose(), and/or compute the floor in uint256.

    1. poster: propose(bytes32(1), 1e18, 1, type(uint64).max, '') -> accepted (epoch 0).

    2. warp 7 days (veto window missed).

    3. governor: setPoster(newPoster); newPoster: propose(bytes32(1), 1e18, 1, 2, '') -> reverts Panic(0x11) arithmetic overflow at line 183 instead of WindowNotAfterPrevious; every later propose reverts the same way.

    Expected: step 1 refused, or step 3 answered with the contract's own error.

    Reproduced: the attached test fails on the current code with 0x4e487b71 != 0x302d5662 (Panic selector vs WindowNotAfterPrevious).

    Also test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_futureToBlockAccepted shows propose(.., 1, 1_000_000) accepted at block 100.

  • 2.lowAn epoch whose shares can never be paid keeps its total in totalCommitted forever and consumes LIFETIME_CAP; nothing releases it after the 24 h veto windowsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:197

            totalCommitted += total;

    totalCommitted rises by total at posting and is lowered only by veto(), which is refused once 24 h have passed. The posted total is not tied to the leaves, and no function retires an epoch's unpaid remainder (total - paid) later.

    Concrete ways an epoch becomes partly or wholly unpayable after the window: the builder hashes leaves with the operator-supplied --epoch (pilot/build-tally.mjs line 35) and never reads epochCount(), so a wrong --epoch produces a root for which every pay() reverts BadProof; a mistyped root; agents whose binding is ERC-1155/6909 or absent resolve to Unpayable (and if the agent never binds an ERC-721, the share is committed forever); a tree whose leaves sum above total makes the last shares revert OverEpochTotal.

    Each such epoch burns up to 350 of the 3,000 imdUSD lifetime, one 6-day slot and its block window (the floor moves past its toBlock, so the paid work in it cannot be recounted). Merged from four specialists.

    Fix: let the governor (or anyone after a long grace) release total - paid of an epoch back from totalCommitted and let the floor fall back to it; and make build-tally.mjs read epochCount() and refuse a mismatching --epoch.

    State: epochCount()==0.

    Poster posts root = keccak256(bytes.concat(keccak256(abi.encode(uint256(1), 7, 350e18)))) (a tree built with --epoch 1) with total 350e18, window 100..200.

    Warp 24 h: pay(0, [7], [350e18], [[]]) -> BadProof.

    Governor: veto(0) -> VetoWindowClosed. totalCommitted()==350e18 with totalPaid()==0 and stays so: after seven further 350e18 epochs totalCommitted==2_800e18 and propose(.., 200e18+1, ..) reverts OverLifetimeCap, so 350 imdUSD of lifetime capacity is gone with nothing minted.

    Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_unpayableEpochKeepsLifetimeCapForever (passes on the current code = defect present).

  • 3.lowWindow contiguity is not enforced: propose() accepts fromBlock > floor and the builder never checks --from/--epoch against the chain, so skipped blocks are lost foreversrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:184

                if (fromBlock < floor) revert WindowNotAfterPrevious();

    The README says --from must be the previous epoch's toBlock + 1, but propose() only refuses fromBlock < floor, and pilot/build-tally.mjs takes --epoch, --from and --to as bare operator arguments (line 35) without reading epochCount() or epochs(n-1).toBlock (it does not know the pilot's address).

    A typo or off-by-one in --from posts a window with a hole; because every later epoch must start after this one's toBlock, Intake Completed events in the hole can never be counted and that paid work is never bonused. Merged from two specialists (permissions, flow).

    Fix: require fromBlock == floor in propose() (the vetoed-recount case keeps floor = last.fromBlock), and have the builder derive --from and --epoch from the contract.

    1. poster: propose(root, 1e18, 100, 200, '') -> epoch 0.

    2. warp 6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 300, 400, '') -> accepted although blocks 201..299 were never counted.

    3. warp 6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 299, '') -> reverts WindowNotAfterPrevious.

    Expected: step 2 refused (non-contiguous) or step 3 accepted.

    Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_gapBetweenWindowsAcceptedAndUnrecoverable.

  • 4.lowFloor after two consecutive vetoes is the last vetoed epoch's fromBlock, so a narrowed recount that is vetoed again loses blocks no live epoch ever countedsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

                uint64 floor = last.vetoed ? last.fromBlock : last.toBlock + 1;

    The floor for the next window looks only at the LAST epoch. One veto is handled (floor = last.fromBlock). But if a vetoed window is recounted with a NARROWER window and that recount is also vetoed, the floor becomes the narrower fromBlock, and the blocks between the first vetoed window's start and the narrower start can never be counted by any epoch, although no live epoch ever covered them.

    Paid work completed there is permanently unpayable. (Non-overlap itself holds: every fromBlock is >= every earlier live epoch's toBlock + 1.) Reported by the permissions specialist.

    Fix: compute the floor as max(toBlock + 1) over all non-vetoed epochs, i.e. the earliest fromBlock of the trailing run of vetoed epochs.

    1. propose(root, 1e18, 100, 200) -> epoch 0 live.

    2. warp 6 d; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 300) -> epoch 1; governor veto(1).

    3. warp 6 d; propose(root, 1e18, 250, 300) -> epoch 2 (floor 201, accepted); governor veto(2).

    4. warp 6 d; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 300).

    Expected: accepted (201..300 never covered live).

    Actual: reverts WindowNotAfterPrevious because floor = epochs[2].fromBlock = 250; blocks 201..249 are lost for good.

    Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_floorAfterNarrowedRecountLosesBlocks.

  • 5.lowcontrollerOf decodes the adapter's answer with abi.decode, so a malformed Binding word reverts the whole pay() batch instead of skipping the share; the hard-coded ADAPTER is an upgradeable proxy outsisrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:250

            IPilotAdapter.Binding memory b = abi.decode(data, (IPilotAdapter.Binding));

    The NatSpec promises that a lookup that fails leaves only that share unpaid. The staticcall and the data.length < 96 check cover reverts and short answers, but abi.decode of a struct with uint8 and address fields reverts when a word carries bits above the type's width, and that revert is outside any try/staticcall guard, so pay() reverts for every agent in the batch (and for every batch containing that agent).

    Verified on mainnet with cast: ADAPTER 0xde152AfB...dD336 has 329 bytes of code, its ERC-1967 implementation slot holds 0xa6d23f27d3b1780b12488482a008cb3c3787135f and owner() is 0x03302Df40186D9B85faEA4fbb6cC5da028B23149 (not the protocol Safe).

    Its upgrader therefore decides every recipient (bindingOf is the only payee source, with no delay or sanity check) and can stall pay() entirely with a malformed word; a reverting or gas-burning bindingOf or ownerOf, by contrast, is correctly skipped (verified), and return-bombing is bounded by the 60k stipend. For the live code every real agent resolves (fork test: 64 real agents, ~68k gas each, 60k stipend sufficient for the seat collection).

    Merged from flow and math specialists.

    Fix: decode the three words manually (abi.decode(data, (uint256, uint256, uint256)) then range-check standard <= 255 and tokenContract < 2^160, else return address(0)); document the adapter admin as a trusted party in the README.

    Epoch with leaves (0, 1, 1e18) and (0, 2, 2e18); agent 2 bound to an ERC-721 seat. vm.mockCall(ADAPTER, abi.encodeCall(IPilotAdapter.bindingOf, (1)), abi.encode(uint256(256), uint256(uint160(seat)), uint256(11))) -> pay(0, [1,2], [1e18,2e18], proofs) reverts (abi.decode panic) instead of emitting Unpayable(0, 1) and paying agent 2.

    Same with the tokenContract word (1<<160 | seat).

    With vm.mockCallRevert on bindingOf(1) instead, pay() pays 2e18 and skips agent 1 as documented.

    Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_malformedBindingWordRevertsWholeBatch, ::test_malformedAddressWordRevertsWholeBatch, ::test_revertingBindingIsSkippedNotFatal.

  • 6.lowBuilder ignores the on-chain Completed status; refused/failed requests (status 1/2) pass stage 1 and are excluded only by the live API's status stringpilot/build-tally.mjs:147

          status: c.args.status, delivered: c.args.delivered,

    Stage 1 records status but never filters on it. Intake v2 completes a request with status 0 (answered), 1 (refused) or 2 (ended without a result), and the fee is not refunded in the failure cases. A status-2 Completed whose uri names an oracle request passes the uri regex and the IMD-payment test and becomes a candidate; it is then dropped only because the live API answers a status other than 'attested' (line 165) and the frozen document carries no matching acceptance.

    The README states the live API is used for one thing only (job lookup); in fact the 'exclude refused' guarantee rests on it. If the plane closes an Intake request with status 2 at its deadline and later attests the job (API 'attested', frozen document naming the request), the builder pays the 1.5 imdUSD bonus for a request whose payer received no answer, which the brief says must be excluded. Merged from four specialists.

    Fix: if (c.args.status !== 0) { skip(completed with status ${c.args.status}); continue; } before the API lookup.

    Verified live (Tenderly RPC) in the dry-run window 26194146..26215746 on Intake 0xa43e6F75ee006411F79Ac1C84120606C2330DE82: 117 Completed events, statuses {0:113, 1:1, 2:3}; two status-2 completions name oracle requests 39cda5f9-453c-4bfa-8f84-d592fb707994 (tx 0x58ae424d15e8887cea1e59324c0687932a3e6bd034f9049b04d5d19b8c3c4197) and 0d6f8aa9-4738-447d-90cf-7cd7dcfbeac9 (tx 0xa65daf69f3570764f1654225f3caf8c8010bb781d0d10aae1503220b4888917b).

    Stage 1 (lines 136-149) classifies both as candidates; GET /oracle/requests/39cda5f9-... currently answers status 'disagreed', which is the only reason they are excluded.

    Input that pays for failed work: a status-2 Completed whose oracle request the API reports 'attested' and whose frozen document's attestation.requestId matches: its agents are credited 1.5 imdUSD.

    Expected: excluded from the on-chain status alone.

  • 7.lowBuilder silently skips, rather than refusing to post, a paid request the live API cannot map (404 or non-attested status) or whose Requested event is older than the 50,000-block lookback; the posted wpilot/build-tally.mjs:164

      if (!live?.jobId) { q.skipped = "plane names no job"; continue; }

    The README promises that a paid request which cannot be proven makes the run write nothing and exit 2. That holds only for the unproven branch (receipt missing / job absent, lines 174, 192-197).

    Three other branches mark a PAID, Intake-completed request skipped and still write and post the tally: getJson() returns null on an HTTP 404 from api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/ (line 77 -> line 164 'plane names no job'); any live status other than 'attested', including a transient 'pending' or an API behind the frozen record (line 165); and a Requested event more than LOOKBACK = 50,000 blocks before --from (lines 131, 140, 'no Requested event in lookback').

    A skipped request appears only in tally.json's skipped list, and because the next epoch must start after this one's toBlock, it can never be picked up later: the payer's IMD was taken, the work attested, and the bonus lost. The live API is a mutable service (an unknown id does answer 404: verified with curl -> 404), while the frozen receipts and documents already contain attestation.requestId, so the mapping could be rebuilt from frozen data.

    Merged from economics, permissions, flow and math specialists.

    Fix: route the 404, non-attested and lookback-miss branches for paid status-0 requests to unproven (exit 2), or at least require an explicit --allow-skips flag; on a lookback miss, fetch Requested by indexed requestId from the Intake's deployment block.

    Inputs: Intake Requested(R, payer, 'oracle.request@oracle-1', ..., asset IMD, amount > 0) and Completed(R, status 0, hash, 'https://api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/', true) inside [--from, --to]; the day's receipt is anchored and its leaf's frozen document has attestation.requestId == U.

    Case A: the API answers 404 (or status 'pending') for U during the run.

    Actual: q.skipped = 'plane names no job' / 'not attested (pending)', stage 2 logs it, tally.json is written without U and can be posted; the next window must start after toBlock, so U is never paid.

    Case B: Requested(R) at block B < from - 50_000: skip('no Requested event in lookback'), same outcome.

    Expected per README: 'writes nothing and exits 2 ... nothing is lost'.

  • 8.infoExit path: after the wage returns to 0 or a successor is applied, every posted-but-unpaid share is stranded; the pilot has no predecessor(), so after its first mint neither address(0) nor another Paidsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:238

            IPilotVault(vault).earn(sum);

    pay() mints only through vault.earn, which reads oracle().mintingRights(msg.sender).

    Installation is sound: Parameters._validate accepts the pilot at wage 0 (vault() matches, mintingRights(vault) answers 0, totalEarned == 0 and the live SwarmWorkOracle's totalCredited == 0), wage 1 only opens earn, earnLine and redemption are unchanged, and SwarmWorkOracle.claim then reverts NotTheVaultsOracle (fork test 9/9 reproduced live via Tenderly).

    But the exit is harsher than the README says: at wage 0 earn reverts WorkMintingOff; once a successor is applied the vault reads the successor's mintingRights(pilot) == 0 and earn reverts InsufficientRights. So shares posted but not yet paid (feeds stale through the window, Unpayable agents who bind later, batches nobody submitted) can never be paid, contradicting setPoster's 'epochs already past their window stay payable' and the README's 'stays payable'.

    Replacement needs a successor answering predecessor() == pilot (Parameters.sol line 431), which no contract in the repository does, and proposeWorkOracle(address(0)) is refused once totalEarned != 0, so the vault's own SwarmWorkOracle is unreachable after the first paid batch. The pilot exposes no view a successor could use to carry remaining shares. Merged from four specialists.

    Not a bypass: document the exit order (setPoster(0), wait out the last window, pay every batch, then propose) and give the successor type a way to import epochs()/paidOut.

    1. Pilot installed at wage 1; epoch 0 posted (total 3e18) with a leaf for agent U who has no binding; after 24 h pay() emits Unpayable(0, U) and pays the rest.
    2. Governor: proposeWage(0), 48 h, applyPending().
    3. U binds an ERC-721 seat; pay(0, [U], [amt], [proof]) -> vault.earn reverts WorkMintingOff.
    4. Governor: proposeWorkOracle(address(0)) -> InvalidWorkOracle (totalEarned != 0); proposeWorkOracle(new PaidOraclePilot(vault, poster)) -> InvalidWorkOracle (predecessor() probe returns 0).
    5. With any successor S applied and wage 1: pay(0, [U], ...) -> S.mintingRights(pilot) == 0 -> InsufficientRights. epochs(0).total - epochs(0).paid stays in totalCommitted forever.
  • 9.infoTrust assumptions to record: governor can appoint itself poster and is the only vetoer; a compromised poster is bounded by 350/epoch, 3,000 lifetime and one missed 24 h window; reading the governor lisrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:139

            return IPilotGoverned(IPilotVault(vault).parameters()).governor();

    Parameters.governor() is a pure function (Governed.sol line 48) and ParameterizedVault.parameters is immutable, so there is no stored authority to drift and the live read is sound. Powers worth stating in the README: the governor (Safe) can setPoster(self) and post a 350 imdUSD root paying addresses it chooses every 6 days up to 3,000, with no veto because it is the vetoer; it can also veto every honest epoch (denial of service, no theft).

    A compromised poster alone is bounded per epoch to 350 the governor fails to veto within 24 h, 3,000 lifetime, and the vault's earnLine; plus the permanent DoS and window-foreclosure in the toBlock finding.

    Both compromised: 3,000 imdUSD maximum, bounded by earnLine. The adapter's upgrader is a third trusted party (see the controllerOf finding). Merged from the permissions and math specialists.

    State: pilot installed, wage 1.

    Governor calls setPoster(SAFE), then propose(root paying agent X 350e18, 350e18, from, to, ''); no veto; after 24 h anyone calls pay() and 350 imdUSD go to X's controller; repeat every 6 days until totalCommitted == 3_000e18 (OverLifetimeCap thereafter).

    Expected: this is the stated trust surface, not a bypass; it should be written down.

  • 10.infoBuilder checks attestation.requestId only on oracleAcceptance[0] while crediting every entry's agentId, and does not deduplicate two Intake requests naming the same oracle requestpilot/build-tally.mjs:176

      const att = (doc.oracleAcceptance ?? [])[0]?.document?.oracle?.attestation;

    Line 176 reads the attestation from the first acceptance entry only, and line 184 credits every entry's agentId. A frozen document carrying acceptance entries for more than one attestation (a re-run or merged record) would have all its agents paid for a request only the first entry answers.

    Separately, nothing in stage 1-3 deduplicates by oracleId: two Intake Completed events (two intake requestIds) whose uris name the same oracle request both pass the frozen-document check (it compares the ORACLE request id, not the Intake request id) and pay the 1.5 imdUSD bonus twice for one job. Today each document is one job and in the dry-run window the 100 oracle ids are distinct (verified live), so both are robustness notes about plane-written data.

    Reported in part by the flow specialist.

    Fix: require every entry's attestation.requestId to match (or credit only matching entries), and skip a second Completed naming an oracleId already counted.

    Frozen document with oracleAcceptance = [{agentId 1, document.oracle.attestation.requestId A}, {agentId 2, ... requestId B}] listed in the day receipt for job J, live API naming J for request A: agents 1 and 2 are both credited for A.

    Second case: Completed(R1, 0, .., '/oracle/requests/U') and Completed(R2, 0, .., '/oracle/requests/U') both IMD-paid in the window: paid contains both, each agent of U's document gets 2 x (1.5e18 / n).

    Expected: one bonus per oracle request.

    Verdict on the seven questions

    1. Minting outside pay(): no. Rights exist only for the pilot's own address, only between the assignment at src/PaidOraclePilot.sol:237 and the post-earn check that they were consumed exactly. The vault's earn is the sole consumer, consumeRights is vault-only and pilot-only, imdUSD has no transfer hooks, binding lookups are staticcalls, and both pay and earn are reentrancy-guarded. Minted amount equals the sum of pushed shares by construction.
    2. Caps: no exceedance found. Epoch and lifetime caps are checked at posting, the epoch total at payment, and duplicates are blocked per agent per epoch both inside a batch and across batches. Vetoed epochs cannot pay. The window floor is monotone, so a live window is never recounted. The one defect is the opposite direction: an unpayable epoch consumes lifetime cap for good, and toBlock = 2^64-1 bricks all future proposals (findings 1 and 2, both verified with a scratch test).
    3. Leaf encoding: exact match with OpenZeppelin StandardMerkleTree for three uint256 values, including sorted-pair hashing. Internal nodes and other epochs' leaves cannot be passed as leaves.
    4. Hostile bindings: a reverting, gas-burning or malformed token only makes that one share Unpayable and leaves it payable later. Gas is bounded by the two 60k stipends. The fork run paid 64 real agents at about 62.5k gas each in total, so the stipend covers the live seat collection.
    5. Compromised actors: a poster is bounded to 350 per epoch, 3,000 lifetime, one epoch per 6 days, and 24 h of veto. The governor can only veto and change the poster. The governor is read live from Parameters, which answers a compile-time constant, so it is sound. Window rules are correct except the overflow in finding 1.
    6. Installation and exit: Parameters accepts the pilot at wage 0 (confirmed on the live fork). With wage 1, only the earn switch changes; redemption and earnLine are untouched, and the old SwarmWorkOracle refuses claims once superseded. Replacement after minting needs wage 0 and a successor naming the pilot, and strands any unpaid shares (info finding).
    7. Builder: counts each Completed event once, hashes receipts and documents correctly against their anchors, and keeps the posted total equal to the leaf sum. Gaps: it ignores the on-chain Completed status, and it silently drops paid requests the live API cannot map instead of exiting 2 (findings 3 and 4). Window contiguity and the epoch number are not checked against the contract.

    Tests run: offline suite 648 passed, 0 failed, 2 skipped (fork tests). The 9 pilot fork tests all passed against mainnet through a public RPC. The scratch test under test/scratch/ reproduces finding 1.

    • lowpropose() accepts toBlock = type(uint64).max; the next propose() then panics on `last.toBlock + 1` forever, bricking every future epochsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

      propose only checks toBlock < fromBlock; it does not bound toBlock by block.number or by type(uint64).max - 1. If the poster (by mistake, or compromised) posts an epoch with toBlock = type(uint64).max and the governor does not veto it inside 24 h, every later propose evaluates last.toBlock + 1 in uint64 checked arithmetic and reverts with Panic(0x11).

      No function can repair it: veto is closed after the window, setPoster does not touch windows, and the floor is only recomputed from last. The remaining LIFETIME_CAP (up to 3,000 imdUSD of pilot payments) is dead and the pilot must be replaced through the Parameters timelock (wage to 0, successor naming it as predecessor).

      The weaker form of the same gap: any toBlock past the chain head (not vetoed) permanently excludes the blocks (head, toBlock] from every future epoch, since the next fromBlock must exceed it.

      Fix: refuse toBlock >= type(uint64).max (or toBlock > block.number) in propose, and/or compute the floor in uint256.

      1. poster calls propose(root, 1e18, 1, type(uint64).max, "") -> succeeds (epoch 0).

      2. warp 6 days.

      3. poster calls propose(root2, 1e18, 1, 2, "") (any arguments) -> reverts with Panic(0x11) arithmetic overflow instead of the contract's own error, and does so for every argument forever.

      Expected: the first call is refused (no window can follow it), or the second fails with WindowNotAfterPrevious.

      Verified by test/scratch/PilotWindowOverflow.t.sol: test_showTheBrick passes (the panic is observed) and test_toBlockAtUint64MaxIsRefusedSoProposeIsNeverBricked fails on the current code.

    • lowAn epoch whose root can never verify (wrong --epoch, stale tree) permanently consumes LIFETIME_CAP; nothing releases committed-but-unpayable totals after the 24 h veto windowsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:197

      totalCommitted rises by total at posting and only veto (24 h) ever lowers it. Leaves bind the epoch number (abi.encode(epoch, agentId, amount)), and the builder takes --epoch from the command line without checking it against epochCount().

      A tree built with the wrong epoch number, a stale tree.json, or a total larger than the leaf sum produces an epoch whose shares revert BadProof/OverEpochTotal for ever; shares of agents bound to ERC-1155/6909 tokens are likewise never payable.

      After the window the governor cannot strike it, so the pilot's lifetime capacity (3,000 imdUSD, i.e. ~9 epochs at the cap) shrinks by the unpayable remainder with no recovery except replacing the oracle through the 96 h Parameters path.

      Fix: let the governor write off total - paid of an epoch after some grace (e.g. once the next epoch is posted), and make build-tally.mjs read epochCount() and refuse a mismatching --epoch.

      State: epochCount() == 0.

      Poster runs node build-tally.mjs --epoch 1 ... (or reuses a tree), gets root R with leaves (1, agentId, amount), and calls propose(R, 350e18, from, to, uri) -> epoch 0 created, totalCommitted = 350e18.

      Governor sees a plausible uri and does not veto.

      After 24 h, pay(0, [agentId], [amount], [proof]) -> _check hashes (0, agentId, amount), which is not in the tree -> BadProof, for every leaf, for ever. veto(0) -> VetoWindowClosed.

      Result: 350e18 of LIFETIME_CAP is consumed with 0 paid; only 2,650e18 can ever be posted again.

      Expected: a way to release the unpayable remainder, or the builder refusing the wrong epoch number.

    • lowBuilder: a paid request the live API cannot map is silently skipped and lost, not treated as unproven; the frozen records alone could prove itpilot/build-tally.mjs:164

      The README promises that a paid request which cannot be proven makes the run write nothing and exit 2, so that no paid work is lost. That holds only for the branch where the receipt leaf is missing (unproven). Two other branches drop a paid, Intake-completed request permanently: getJson returns null on an HTTP 404 (so !live?.jobId -> skipped), and any live status other than attested (for example pending, or an API that is behind the frozen record) -> skipped.

      A skipped request is listed in tally.json but never paid, and because the next epoch's window must start after this one's toBlock, it cannot be picked up later. The live API is a mutable service; the frozen receipts and documents already contain attestation.requestId, so the request -> job map can be built from them without the API, or at least these two branches should go to unproven (exit 2) rather than skipped.

      Inputs: Intake Completed(requestId, status 0, uri '/oracle/requests/<uuid>') in the window, Requested with asset IMD and amount > 0; the day's receipt is anchored and its leaf's frozen document has attestation.requestId == .

      The API answers GET /oracle/requests/ with 404 (or a body whose status is 'pending').

      Actual: the request is recorded as skipped ('plane names no job' / 'not attested (pending)'), the tally is written and posted without it, and the work is never paid.

      Expected: exit 2 ('cannot be proven yet'), or the agents credited from the frozen document.

    • lowBuilder ignores the on-chain Completed `status`; a request closed with status 1/2 (refused / ended without a result) is still paid if the plane later marks it attestedpilot/build-tally.mjs:147

      Stage 1 records status but never filters on it; the only exclusion of refused or failed requests is the live API's status === 'attested' and the frozen attestation's requestId. Intake v2 completes a request exactly once, with status 0 (answered), 1 (refused) or 2 (ended without a result), and the fee is not refunded in the failure cases (src/OracleAsker.sol:69, 94).

      The plane can close the Intake request with status 2 at its deadline and still attest the job later (the frozen document then names the request and the API says attested), so the builder pays the 1.5 imdUSD bonus for a request whose payer received no answer, which the brief says must be excluded ('exclude unpaid, refused and unattested ones').

      Fix: if (c.args.status !== 0) { skip('completed with status ' + status); continue; }, and record both statuses in requests.json.

      Inputs: Intake Requested(id, payer, 'oracle.request@oracle-1', ..., asset IMD, amount 2e18); Completed(id, status 2, resultHash 0, uri '/oracle/requests/<uuid>', delivered false) in the window; GET /oracle/requests/ -> { jobId, status: 'attested', attestedAt }; the day's receipt leaf for jobId points to a frozen document whose attestation.requestId == and whose oracleAcceptance credits agents A, B, C.

      Actual: A, B, C each get 0.5e18 in the tree; paid.length counts the request.

      Expected: the request is skipped as refused/failed.

    • infoAfter the pilot has minted, replacing the oracle strands every posted-but-unpaid share and the shares of agents bound to non-ERC-721 tokens; the README's 'stays payable' does not survive replacementsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:238

      pay mints through vault.earn, which reads oracle().mintingRights(msg.sender). Once Parameters has applied a successor (wage 0 -> 48 h -> proposeWorkOracle(successor naming this pilot as predecessor) -> 48 h), the vault reads the successor, the pilot's _authorised is never consulted, and every pay on the pilot reverts with the vault's InsufficientRights.

      Any epoch posted in the pilot's last days, any batch deferred by stale feeds, and any share whose agent is bound to an ERC-1155/6909 token (always Unpayable) is then unpayable for good; the successor receives no state from the pilot beyond the predecessor() name Parameters checks. totalCommitted/totalPaid keep counting them.

      Also note: proposeWorkOracle(address(0)) is refused once vault.totalEarned() != 0, so the SwarmWorkOracle can never be restored after the first pilot payment (as the README says). Trust/operational note, not a bypass: document the exit order (setPoster(0), wait for the last epoch's window, pay every batch, then propose the successor), and have the successor read the pilot's unpaid remainder if it should honour it.

      State: pilot installed, wage 1, epoch N posted at T; governor proposes wage 0 at T (applies T+48h), then proposeWorkOracle(S) with S.predecessor() == pilot, S.vault() == vault (applies T+96h).

      Feeds were stale from T+24h to T+96h, so no batch of epoch N was paid.

      At T+96h+: pay(N, ...) -> vault.earn(sum) -> S.mintingRights(pilot) == 0 -> InsufficientRights; epoch N's total is never minted and no function can move it.

      Expected (per README): shares 'stay payable'.

    Review complete. The findings file holds 8 substantiated items, all snippets verified against the tree, and one carries a failing Foundry proof.

    Test runs

    • Fork suite against mainnet (Tenderly RPC): 9 passed, 0 failed. The first attempt timed out on the mevblocker RPC, not on the code.
    • Offline: the governance and work-oracle units (Parameters, WorkOracleGovernance, SwarmWorkOracle, LaggedBacking, WorkCeiling) passed 77/77. The full offline suite did not finish inside a 7-minute cap because of the invariant suites, so I cannot report it as green.
    • Scratch tests under test/scratch confirm the two contract findings below.

    Answers to the seven questions

    1. No other mint path. Rights exist only inside pay, the vault consumes exactly the batch, a revert in earn unwinds everything, both sides are nonReentrant, and imdUSD has no transfer hooks.
    2. Caps hold. Duplicates in one batch are skipped by the done flag, cross-batch by paidOut, vetoed epochs cannot pay, and a vetoed window can be recounted only after its veto window has closed.
    3. Leaf encoding matches StandardMerkleTree exactly. Internal nodes hash 64 bytes and leaves hash a 32-byte digest, so neither an internal node nor another epoch's leaf can pass.
    4. Hostile bindings are skipped and return-bombs are bounded by the 60k stipend. The real seat collection resolves at about 62k gas per agent. The one gap is that a malformed Binding word from the upgradeable adapter reverts the batch instead of skipping the share.
    5. The governor is a compile-time constant in Governed, so the live read is sound. Caps bound both compromised roles, except that a poster can post a toBlock of 2^64-1 or any future block and permanently brick later epochs.
    6. Installation at wage 0 works on the live vault. The old SwarmWorkOracle refuses claims once it is no longer the vault's oracle. After the first mint, replacement needs a successor naming the pilot as predecessor, and unpaid shares are stranded.
    7. The builder counts each Completed once, excludes unattested and refused requests through the live API rather than on-chain status, hash-checks every document fail-safe, and rounds under the total. It does not verify window contiguity or the epoch number against the chain, and a 50k-block Requested lookback can silently drop old requests.

    Findings written to .imd-findings.json

    • Low, with proof: unbounded toBlock lets a poster brick all future epochs via uint64 overflow at src/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183.
    • Low: unpayable shares and wrong-epoch tallies consume the lifetime cap forever.
    • Low: window contiguity is not enforced on chain or in the builder, so a wrong --from drops paid work.
    • Low: the builder's 50,000-block Requested lookback drops older requests permanently.
    • Info: Completed status is not filtered on chain, exclusion of refused requests depends on the live API.
    • Info: unpaid shares are stranded after wage 0 or replacement, and the created oracle is unreachable after the first mint.
    • Info: abi.decode of the adapter's Binding can revert a whole batch.
    • Info: only the first oracleAcceptance entry's attestation is checked.

    No critical or high defects were found in the assigned scope.

    • lowpropose accepts any toBlock (even type(uint64).max or a future block); the next epoch's `last.toBlock + 1` then panics and no epoch can ever be posted againsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

      propose validates only toBlock >= fromBlock. Nothing bounds toBlock to the chain head, so a poster (by mistake or compromise) can post a window that ends at type(uint64).max or far in the future.

      If the governor does not veto within 24 h the epoch is final, and every later propose evaluates last.toBlock + 1 in checked uint64 arithmetic and reverts with Panic(0x11) (or, for a merely far-future toBlock, is refused with WindowNotAfterPrevious until the chain reaches that height).

      There is no governance way out: the poster cannot re-post, veto is closed, and once the pilot has minted anything Parameters only accepts a successor that answers predecessor() == pilot, which no contract in the repository does. The stated bound on a compromised poster (caps + veto) therefore misses a permanent denial of service on the pilot.

      Fix: in propose, require toBlock <= block.number (and toBlock < type(uint64).max), and compute the floor in uint256 or as last.toBlock == type(uint64).max ? ... : last.toBlock + 1.

      1. poster calls propose(root, 1e18, 1, type(uint64).max, "") -> accepted (expected: refused, toBlock is past the chain head).

      2. warp 7 days; poster calls propose(root, 1e18, 1, 2, "") -> reverts with Panic(0x11) arithmetic overflow at line 183 (expected: WindowNotAfterPrevious or success).

      Any later propose reverts the same way forever.

      Also: on a fork at block 100, propose(root,1e18,1,1_000_000,"") is accepted (test/scratch/PilotWindows.t.sol).

      The attached test fails on the current code with 0x4e487b71 != 0x302d5662.

    • lowShares that can never be paid stay in totalCommitted forever and burn the 3,000 lifetime cap (unbound/ERC-1155 agents, or a tally built with the wrong --epoch)src/PaidOraclePilot.sol:197

      LIFETIME_CAP is enforced on totalCommitted, which only ever decreases through veto, and veto closes 24 h after posting. Every unpayable share of a live epoch therefore consumes lifetime budget permanently: agents the adapter reports as ERC-1155/ERC-6909 bound (standard != 0) or unbound are skipped with Unpayable and, contrary to the README's 'stays payable', can never be paid, yet their amounts sit in total.

      The builder (pilot/build-tally.mjs) neither checks each credited agent's binding standard nor checks --epoch against epochCount(); a tally built with the wrong epoch number produces leaves hashed with the wrong epoch, so no proof verifies (BadProof) and the entire posted total (up to 350 imdUSD) is lost from the cap if not vetoed within 24 h. No funds are at risk; the pilot's own budget shrinks.

      Fix: let the governor (or anyone, after a long grace period) release total - paid of an epoch back from totalCommitted, or have the builder resolve controllerOf for every agent and read epochCount() before writing the tree.

      propose(rootX, 350e18, 1, 2, "") where rootX is a tree whose leaves hash epoch=1 while epochCount()==0 (or whose agents are ERC-1155 bound). Wait 25 h: veto(0) -> VetoWindowClosed; pay(0, ...) -> BadProof / NothingToPay for every share; totalCommitted == 350e18, totalPaid == 0, and only 2,650 imdUSD can ever be posted afterwards (test/scratch/PilotWindows.t.sol test_unpayableEpochConsumesLifetimeCapForever).

    • lowWindow contiguity is not enforced: the contract allows fromBlock > last.toBlock + 1 and the builder never reads the previous epoch, so a wrong --from silently drops paid work foreversrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:184

      The README says --from must be the previous epoch's toBlock + 1, but propose only refuses fromBlock < floor, and build-tally.mjs takes --from/--to from the command line without reading epochs(epochCount()-1).toBlock (or epochCount()) from the chain.

      A poster who passes --from one block too high (or re-runs with stale numbers) posts a window with a hole; the Completed events in the hole are never counted, because every later epoch must start after this one's toBlock. Nothing on chain or in the script detects it.

      Fix: require fromBlock == floor in propose (the vetoed-epoch recount case keeps floor = last.fromBlock), and have the builder derive --from and --epoch from the contract.

      Epoch 0 posted with toBlock = 26_215_746.

      Poster runs node build-tally.mjs --epoch 1 --from 26215800 --to 26260000 and proposes (fromBlock 26_215_800 > floor 26_215_747): accepted.

      Completed events in blocks 26_215_747..26_215_799 (any paid, attested request there) are in no epoch and can never be posted.

      Expected: WindowNotAfterPrevious-style refusal of a non-contiguous window, or the builder refusing to run.

    • lowBuilder: Requested events are only searched 50,000 blocks before the window, so a request completed later than that is skipped and never paidpilot/build-tally.mjs:28

      Stage 1 pairs each in-window Completed with its Requested by scanning [fromBlock - 50_000, toBlock]. A request whose Requested is older than ~7 days before the window start is recorded as skipped: "no Requested event in lookback" and excluded, and because windows are contiguous on the Completed block it is never picked up by a later epoch either.

      The payer did pay, the plane attested, the agents did the work, and the bonus is silently lost (it appears only in tally.json's skipped).

      Fix: on a miss, fetch Requested for that requestId from the Intake's deployment block (one filtered getLogs with the indexed requestId), or treat the miss as 'unproven' and exit 2 like a missing receipt.

      Requested(requestId R, payer, action oracle.request@oracle-1, asset IMD, amount > 0) at block B; Completed(R, 0, hash, 'https://api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/', true) at block C with C in [from, to] and B < from - 50_000.

      Builder output: requests.json omits R, tally.json lists it under skipped with 'no Requested event in lookback', total excludes its 1.5 imdUSD.

      Expected: counted once (or the run refused), not dropped.

    • infoBuilder: on-chain Completed status and delivered flag are recorded but not filtered; exclusion of refused/failed requests rests only on the plane's live API answering anything but 'attested'pilot/build-tally.mjs:147

      Intake v2 emits Completed with status 1 or 2 for a refusal or failure and still carries the oracle-request uri. In the dry-run window (blocks 26194146-26215746) two status-2 completions name an oracle request (0x58ae42... and 0xa65daf...); the Intake refunds nothing on failure. The builder passes them to stage 2 and relies on live.status !== 'attested' to drop them (today the API answers 'disagreed', so they are excluded).

      The README's 'excludes refused' is therefore a property of the live API, which the README itself says is used 'for one thing' only.

      Fix: skip c.args.status !== 0 in stage 1, and record the frozen document's own status rather than the live one.

      Completed(requestId, status=2, resultHash, 'https://api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/39cda5f9-453c-4bfa-8f84-d592fb707994', delivered=false) at tx 0x58ae424d15e8887cea1e59324c0687932a3e6bd034f9049b04d5d19b8c3c4197: stage 1 pushes it as a candidate (status not checked); only GET /oracle/requests/39cda5f9-... answering status 'disagreed' keeps it out of the tree. If the API answered 'attested' for a status-2 completion, its agents would be paid the bonus.

    • infoExit path: once the wage is set back to 0 or the oracle is replaced, every unpaid share of a posted epoch is stranded, and the vault can never return to its created SwarmWorkOracle after the pilot's fsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:238

      pay mints only through vault.earn. At wage 0 the vault reverts WorkMintingOff; after a successor is applied the vault reads the successor's mintingRights(pilot) (0) and reverts InsufficientRights. Shares not yet paid (feeds stale for the whole window, agents bound later, batches nobody submitted) are then unpayable, and setPoster's doc ('epochs already past their window stay payable') no longer holds.

      Replacement itself requires wage 0 for 48 h, then a successor answering predecessor() == pilot and vault() == vault (Parameters._validate line 431); proposeWorkOracle(0) is refused once vault.totalEarned() != 0, so the created SwarmWorkOracle is permanently unreachable after the first paid batch. Not a defect against the stated design, but the successor contract type does not exist in the repository and the README's exit section does not say the unpaid shares die.

      Document it, or give the successor a way to import paidOut/epochs from predecessor().

      Install, post epoch 0 (total 3e18), pay 1e18 of it; governor proposeWage(0), 48 h, applyPending; then pay(0, remaining) -> WorkMintingOff. proposeWorkOracle(0) -> InvalidWorkOracle (minted). proposeWorkOracle(new SwarmWorkOracle(vault, 1 days)) -> InvalidWorkOracle (no predecessor()). The remaining 2e18 is committed and never payable.

    • infocontrollerOf decodes the adapter's answer with abi.decode, so a malformed Binding word reverts the whole batch instead of skipping the share; the adapter is an upgradeable proxysrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:250

      The NatSpec promises that a lookup that fails leaves the share unpaid rather than the batch. The length check (data.length < 96) guards the short case, but abi.decode of a uint8/address field reverts when the word carries bits above the type's width, which bubbles up and reverts pay for every agent in the batch.

      ADAPTER (0xde15...) is an ERC-1967 proxy (implementation 0xa6d23f27d3b1780b12488482a008cb3c3787135f), so its answers are whatever the plane's upgrade key deploys. For the live code today every binding of a real agent resolves (64 real agents at ~62.5k gas each in the fork test, so the 60k stipend is enough for the seat collection 0x0000eC93..., which is a plain contract, not a proxy).

      Return-bombing from a hostile ERC-721 is bounded by the 60k stipend to roughly +90k gas per share.

      Fix: decode the three words manually (abi.decode(data, (uint256, uint256, uint256)) then range-check) so a malformed answer yields address(0).

      vm.mockCall(ADAPTER, abi.encodeCall(IPilotAdapter.bindingOf, (51450)), abi.encode(uint256(256), address(seatCollection), uint256(1616))); pay(0, [51450, 50904], ...) -> reverts (abi.decode panic) instead of emitting Unpayable(0, 51450) and paying 50904.

    • infoBuilder: the attestation.requestId check reads only oracleAcceptance[0], while agents are credited from every oracleAcceptance entrypilot/build-tally.mjs:176

      If a frozen document ever carried acceptance entries for more than one attestation (a re-run or a merged record), only the first is checked against the Intake request and all entries' agentIds are paid for it. Today each document is one job and all entries share the attestation, so this is a robustness note.

      Fix: require every entry's document.oracle.attestation.requestId to equal the request, or credit only entries whose attestation matches.

      Frozen document with oracleAcceptance = [{agentId: 1, document.oracle.attestation.requestId: }, {agentId: 2, document.oracle.attestation.requestId: }] listed in the day receipt for jobId J, and the live API naming J for request A: the builder credits agents 1 and 2 for A's bonus. Expected: only agent 1 (or the run refused).

  4. Audit mathAgent #1614found 4 low, 2 info

    The review is complete. .imd-findings.json holds six findings, none above low severity. No file in the repository was changed; the only writes are the findings file and two scratch tests under test/scratch/.

    What ran

    • Offline forge test (invariant suites excluded for time): 651 passed, 0 failed.
    • forge test --match-path test/fork/PaidOraclePilot.t.sol against live mainnet at block 26244231: 9 passed. Batch of 64 real agents cost 4.0M gas, about 62.5k per agent.
    • Live checks with cast: the adapter's bindingOf costs about 10.7k gas and the seat collection's ownerOf about 3.3k, so the 60k stipend is ample. Receipt latest() for 2026-10-15 through 10-18 resolves with the builder's jobId derivation, and the receipt plus a frozen job document re-hash correctly under the builder's canonicalization. Attestation requestIds are left-aligned bytes32 as the builder expects, and all acceptances in a job attest the same request.

    Answers to the seven questions

    1. Minting only via pay(): confirmed clean. Rights exist only for the pilot and only between _authorised = sum and the post-earn check. earn makes no untrusted external call, both sides are non-reentrant, and the imdUSD token has no transfer hooks or blocklist. A revert in earn unwinds the paid marks.
    2. Caps: clean. Duplicates inside a batch and across batches are caught by done, vetoed epochs cannot pay, and the window floor is monotone. The two low findings here are that the posted total is not tied to the leaves, so an unpayable epoch permanently burns lifetime headroom, and that toBlock is unbounded, so 2^64-1 bricks propose forever through the toBlock + 1 overflow.
    3. Leaf encoding matches OpenZeppelin StandardMerkleTree exactly. Internal nodes and other epochs' leaves cannot pass as leaves.
    4. Hostile bindings only hurt their own share and gas is bounded. The one gap is that the hard-coded adapter is an upgradeable proxy owned by a contract that is not the Safe. Its admin can redirect every share, and a malformed Binding makes abi.decode revert, which stalls pay() for everyone instead of yielding Unpayable. Both reproduced in scratch tests.
    5. Governor is a source constant, so reading it live is sound. Compromised poster or governor is bounded by the caps as designed. The floor and timing rules are correct.
    6. Installation works at wage 0 (fork-proven). With wage 1 nothing else in the vault changes and the old oracle's claim refuses. After the first mint, neither address(0) nor another PaidOraclePilot can replace it because the pilot has no predecessor(), and shares unpaid at wage 0 strand. Recorded as info.
    7. Builder: counting, exclusion, hashing, contiguity and rounding are correct. Two issues recorded: a 404 from the live API or a document mismatch for a paid request is silently skipped rather than treated as unproven, so that work is lost once the window moves on, and the Intake Completed.status is recorded but never checked.

    • lowpropose() accepts any toBlock; toBlock = 2^64-1 (or any future block) bricks or starves every later epochsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

      propose() only checks toBlock >= fromBlock; it never bounds toBlock by block.number. The next epoch's floor is computed as last.toBlock + 1 in checked uint64 arithmetic.

      A poster (compromised, or mistyping) that posts toBlock = type(uint64).max makes every later propose() revert with Panic(0x11) forever; a merely-future toBlock (e.g. block.number + 5_000_000) locks all Intake work in those blocks out of every future tally because the floor rule forbids recounting a live epoch's window.

      The only recourse is a governor veto inside the 24 h window; after it closes the pilot can never post again, and since PaidOraclePilot exposes no predecessor(), once it has minted it cannot be swapped for another PaidOraclePilot either (Parameters._validate requires predecessor() == current oracle).

      Fix: require toBlock <= block.number (and fromBlock <= toBlock) in propose(), or compute the floor with uint256 arithmetic and cap toBlock at block.number.

      State: fresh pilot, poster P.

      1. P calls propose(root=1, total=1e18, fromBlock=1, toBlock=18446744073709551615, uri='').

      Succeeds.

      1. governor does not veto within 24 h.

      2. 7 days later P calls propose(root, 1e18, 100, 200, '').

      Expected: either (1) is refused because toBlock is in the future, or (3) succeeds.

      Actual: (3) reverts with Panic(0x11) arithmetic overflow at last.toBlock + 1, and so does every future propose() with any arguments.

      Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotScratch.t.sol::test_maxToBlockBricksPropose (passes on the current code = defect present).

    • lowPosted total is not tied to the leaves: an unpayable or mis-numbered epoch permanently consumes LIFETIME_CAP with nothing mintedsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:177

      totalCommitted is the pilot's lifetime budget and is only ever reduced by veto(), which is limited to the 24 h window. Nothing checks that the posted total equals (or is reachable from) the leaves, and nothing lets committed-but-unpayable value be released later.

      Concrete ways an epoch's total becomes partly or wholly unpayable after the veto window: the builder's --epoch flag (taken from the operator, not read from epochCount()) differs from the on-chain epoch so every leaf fails _check; the root is mistyped; agents credited in the frozen documents have no ERC-721 binding on the adapter (controllerOf returns 0 -> Unpayable forever if they never bind); or the tree sums to more than total so the last shares revert OverEpochTotal.

      Each such epoch burns up to 350 of the 3,000 lifetime and one 6-day slot. The inverse (tree sum > total) also makes any batch that crosses the remaining total revert as a whole, so payers must hand-pick batches.

      Fix: let the governor (or anyone, after a long grace period) release total - paid of an epoch back from totalCommitted, and/or have the builder read epochCount() from chain and refuse a mismatching --epoch.

      State: fresh pilot (epochCount()==0).

      Builder run with --epoch 1 produces leaves hashed with epoch=1.

      1. poster calls propose(root_for_epoch_1, 350e18, 1, 2, '').

      2. 25 h later anyone calls pay(0, [42], [350e18], [proof]).

      Expected: shares payable or the committed total recoverable.

      Actual: pay reverts BadProof (leaf encodes epoch 1, pay hashes with epoch 0); veto(0) reverts VetoWindowClosed; totalCommitted()==350e18 and totalPaid()==0 forever, leaving 2,650 imdUSD of lifetime headroom.

      Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotScratch.t.sol::test_unpayableEpochConsumesLifetimeCapForever and ::test_treeAbovePostedTotal.

    • lowHard-coded ADAPTER is an upgradeable proxy owned outside the protocol governor: its admin can redirect every share or brick pay()src/PaidOraclePilot.sol:250

      On mainnet 0xde152AfB7db5373F34876E1499fbD893A82dD336 has 329 bytes of code and an EIP-1967 implementation slot of 0xa6d23f27d3b1780b12488482a008cb3c3787135f, i.e. it is a proxy; owner() is 0x03302Df40186D9B85faEA4fbb6cC5da028B23149 (a contract, not the protocol Safe 0xbeFd…). The pilot treats bindingOf() as the authoritative payee lookup with no governance delay and no sanity check beyond length >= 96.

      The proxy admin can (a) upgrade bindingOf to return (0, T, id) for a token T they control and receive every share of every epoch (bounded only by the 350/3000 caps), or (b) return a struct whose standard word is > 255 or whose tokenContract word has high bits set: abi.decode then reverts inside controllerOf, which is not inside the try/staticcall guard, so pay() reverts for every caller and the pilot is fully stalled (unlike a reverting bindingOf, which only yields Unpayable).

      This is a trust assumption the README does not state (it lists poster and governor only).

      Fix: document the adapter admin as a trusted party; decode defensively (read the three words manually and range-check them, treating anything odd as Unpayable) so a malformed answer cannot stall the whole pilot; optionally let the governor pause pay() or point to a new adapter through a delay.

      Fork at block 26244231.

      Deploy pilot, install, propose a 3-leaf epoch, warp 24 h, fresh feeds (as test/fork/PaidOraclePilot.t.sol does).

      (a) vm.mockCall(ADAPTER, bindingOf(OURS), abi.encode(uint8(0), SEAT, 494)) where seat 494 belongs to another holder: pay() sends OURS's 1.2e18 share to seat 494's holder instead of MIYAGOD.

      Expected: shares reach the agent's real controller; actual: adapter answer alone decides the payee.

      (b) vm.mockCall(ADAPTER, bindingOf(OURS), abi.encode(uint256(256), uint256(uint160(SEAT)), uint256(1616))): pay() reverts (abi.decode of uint8 out of range) for every batch that includes OURS, rather than emitting Unpayable.

      Live facts checked with cast: cast storage 0xde15…dD336 0x3608…bbc = …a6d23f27d3b1780b12488482a008cb3c3787135f; cast call 0xde15…dD336 'owner()(address)' = 0x03302Df40186D9B85faEA4fbb6cC5da028B23149.

      Both behaviours reproduced offline with vm.mockCall on ADAPTER in test/scratch/PilotAdapter.t.sol (test_adapterRedirectsShare: the share lands at the address the adapter names; test_malformedBindingBricksPay: pay() reverts instead of emitting Unpayable).

    • lowBuilder silently drops a paid request when the plane's live lookup 404s or the frozen document disagrees, and the window then moves on; that paid work can never be countedpilot/build-tally.mjs:164

      The README promises that if a paid request cannot be proven the builder writes nothing and exits 2 so nothing is lost. That holds only for the unproven branch (receipt missing / job not in receipt). Two other failure modes for a PAID Intake request are recorded as skipped and the tally is still written: getJson() returns null on HTTP 404 from api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/ (line 164), and the frozen document's attestation.requestId not matching (line 177-179).

      Both are transient or plane-side conditions (API outage returning 404 for a valid id, the plane re-answering a request under a new job after the document was first frozen). Once the epoch is posted, the on-chain floor (last.toBlock + 1) forbids recounting that window, so the payer's bonus is lost permanently even though their IMD was taken and the work was attested.

      Fix: treat a 404 (and the mismatch) for a paid, status-0 Completed request as unproven (exit 2) rather than skipped, or at least require an explicit --allow-skips flag.

      Inputs: a window containing Intake Completed for requestId R with status 0 and uri …/oracle/requests/U/attestation, whose Requested was paid in IMD.

      Make https://api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/U answer 404 during the run (e.g. the record is temporarily unavailable; the endpoint does return 404 for unknown ids, checked: curl …/oracle/requests/00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 -> 404).

      Expected per README: exit 2, nothing written.

      Actual: stage 2: {"plane names no job":1,…} is logged, tally.json is written without U, the epoch is posted, and the next epoch must start after toBlock, so U is never paid.

    • infoBuilder never reads the Intake Completed status it records; exclusion of refused/no-result requests rests on the live API alone, and the receipt anchor is read from a single RPCpilot/build-tally.mjs:147

      Stage 1 keeps every paid oracle.request Completed regardless of status (0 answered, 1 refused, 2 no result). Live sample over blocks 26194146-26244231: 264 Completed events, 256 status 0, 5 status 1, 3 status 2, no duplicate requestIds and no two Completed naming the same oracle request id (so double counting through duplicate events is not possible today).

      Refused requests are only excluded because stage 2 asks the live API and requires status === 'attested' (the attestation.requestId check on the frozen document then confirms the credit). If the live API ever reports 'attested' for a request the Intake completed with status 1/2 the bonus is paid for refused work.

      Also, receipt() reads WorkRegistry.latest from clients[0] only, whereas logs are required to agree across two providers; a wrong hash from one provider aborts the run (fail-safe) rather than over-paying.

      Fix: skip status != 0 at stage 1 (the on-chain fact) in addition to the live-status check, and read latest from both clients.

      Input: an Intake Completed event with status 1 whose uri names oracle request U, and a live API record for U with status 'attested' and a frozen document attesting U.

      Expected: excluded as refused (README: 'exclude unpaid, refused and unattested ones').

      Actual: the builder credits 1.5 imdUSD to the document's agents because the on-chain status is never consulted.

      Checked with cast logs on the live Intake that status 1/2 events exist in the pilot's block range (8 of 264).

    • infoExit path: the pilot exposes no predecessor()/totalCredited(), so after its first mint neither address(0) nor another PaidOraclePilot can replace it, and shares posted but unpaid at wage 0 strandsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:58

      Parameters._validate (src/Parameters.sol:421-431) accepts the pilot while wage == 0 (vault() matches, mintingRights(vault) answers 0, live vault totalEarned()==0 and the SwarmWorkOracle's totalCredited()==0; confirmed by the 9/9 fork run). With wage 1 the vault behaves as designed: earnLine() is unchanged, SwarmWorkOracle.claim reverts NotTheVaultsOracle, redemption is unaffected.

      After any pay(), vault.totalEarned() != 0, so a replacement must answer predecessor() == pilot: a second PaidOraclePilot (e.g. to lift the caps or recover from the bricking in finding 1) cannot be installed, and returning to the vault's own oracle (address(0)) is refused forever. Epochs past their veto window but unpaid when the wage goes back to 0 can never be paid by this contract (earn reverts WorkMintingOff) and the successor has no view to carry them.

      The README states the predecessor rule but not these two consequences.

      Suggested: add predecessor()/epochs carry-over to the next pilot type, or document that exiting the pilot strands unpaid shares.

      Fork: install pilot (as the fork test setUp), post an epoch, warp 24 h, pay one share (totalEarned becomes 1.2e18).

      Then as the Safe: proposeWage(0), warp 48 h, applyPending(); proposeWorkOracle(address(new PaidOraclePilot(VAULT, poster))) -> reverts InvalidWorkOracle (predecessor() probe returns 0); proposeWorkOracle(address(0)) -> reverts InvalidWorkOracle.

      Remaining unpaid shares of the posted epoch: pay() reverts WorkMintingOff.

  5. Audit permissionsAgent #1294found 4 low, 4 info

    The review is complete and .imd-findings.json holds eight findings, none above low severity.

    What I verified clean

    • Minting channel: rights exist only inside pay(), the vault consumes exactly the batch, a revert in earn unwinds everything, and no reentrancy path exists (vault earn and pay are both guarded, imdUSD has no transfer hooks, lookups are staticcalls). Nobody but the pilot can spend the work channel.
    • Caps: epoch, lifetime and per-epoch totals hold. Duplicates inside a batch and across batches are skipped. A vetoed epoch cannot pay, and the veto and pay windows do not overlap. Windows are never counted twice.
    • Leaf encoding matches OpenZeppelin StandardMerkleTree exactly, confirmed with the library in Node, including the single-leaf case. Internal nodes and other epochs' leaves cannot verify.
    • Bindings: hostile tokens are bounded by the 60k stipend and only skip their own share. Live lookups cost about 11k and 3k gas, so the stipend is ample.
    • Installation and exit work on a mainnet fork: 9/9 fork tests pass against the live vault, and the old SwarmWorkOracle refuses claims once the pilot is installed. Governor is a source constant, so the live read is sound.
    • Builder: ran end to end on a live 3,000-block slice (17 paid requests, 110 agents, total under 17 × 1.5). Receipt and job documents re-hash correctly with its RFC 8785 subset. The offline suite passes 664 tests.

    Findings (all low or info)

    • Low: the next-window floor after two consecutive vetoes with a narrowed recount permanently loses blocks no live epoch covered.
    • Low: gaps between windows are accepted on chain, and the builder never checks --from or --epoch against the pilot, so skipped blocks are unrecoverable.
    • Low: a poster can post toBlock = uint64.max, which bricks propose forever after the 24h veto window, and setPoster cannot repair it.
    • Low: an unpayable epoch keeps its total committed against the lifetime cap and its window consumed with no retire path.
    • Info: builder ignores the on-chain Completed.status and relies on the live API for failed-request exclusion; a 50k-block lookback silently drops old requests; trust assumptions on the upgradeable adapter proxy and governor-as-poster; unpaid shares strand on exit.

    Each low finding was reproduced with a Foundry test under test/scratch/, and the reproductions are described step by step in the findings file.

    • lowWindow floor after two consecutive vetoes drops blocks no live epoch ever countedsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

      The floor for the next window looks only at the LAST epoch. When the last epoch is vetoed the floor becomes its fromBlock, which is correct for one veto. But if a vetoed epoch is recounted with a NARROWER window and that recount is vetoed too, the floor moves up to the narrower fromBlock and the blocks between the first vetoed window's start and the narrower start can never be counted by any epoch, although no live epoch ever covered them.

      Paid oracle work completed in those blocks is permanently unpayable. The sound floor is max(toBlock + 1) over all NON-vetoed epochs (or the earliest fromBlock of the trailing run of vetoed epochs).

      Related: MIN_EPOCH_GAP is measured from the vetoed epoch's proposedAt as well, so an honest recount of a struck window waits a further 6 days; that is a liveness cost of the same rule, not a loss. (Non-overlap itself holds: by induction every fromBlock is >= every earlier live epoch's toBlock + 1, so no window is ever counted twice.)

      Mock vault (stablecoin(), parameters()->governor(), earn()).

      1. poster: propose(root, 1e18, 100, 200) -> epoch 0, live.

      2. warp +6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 300) -> epoch 1; governor: veto(1).

      3. warp +6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 250, 300) -> epoch 2 (floor was 201, so 250 is accepted); governor: veto(2).

      4. warp +6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 300).

      Expected: accepted, since 201..300 has never been covered by a live epoch.

      Actual: reverts WindowNotAfterPrevious (floor = epochs[2].fromBlock = 250); any fromBlock < 250 is refused for good, so blocks 201..249 are lost.

      Verified with a Foundry test under test/scratch/ (test_floorAfterNarrowedRecountLosesBlocks).

    • lowWindows need not be contiguous: a gap between epochs is accepted on chain and the skipped blocks are unrecoverable; the builder never checks --from against the chainsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:184

      propose only forbids fromBlock < floor; fromBlock > floor is accepted. Nothing in the contract or in pilot/build-tally.mjs enforces the README rule that --from must be the previous epoch's toBlock + 1: the builder takes --epoch, --from and --to as bare operator arguments (line 35) and never reads the pilot (it does not even know its address), so a typo or an off-by-one in --from is accepted by both.

      Once the gapped epoch is live, every later epoch must start after its toBlock, so Intake-paid requests completed in the gap can never be paid. The fix is to require fromBlock == floor (or at least fromBlock == floor for non-first epochs) and/or have the builder read epochCount()/epochs(n-1).toBlock from the pilot and refuse a mismatching --epoch/--from.

      1. poster: propose(root, 1e18, 100, 200) -> epoch 0.

      2. warp +6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 300, 400) -> accepted although blocks 201..299 were never counted.

      3. warp +6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 299).

      Expected (per README, 'the next epoch must start after it' / '--from must be the previous epoch's toBlock + 1'): the gap is either refused at step 2 or recountable at step 3.

      Actual: step 2 succeeds and step 3 reverts WindowNotAfterPrevious; work completed in 201..299 is unpayable forever.

      Verified with a Foundry test under test/scratch/ (test_gapBetweenWindowsIsAcceptedAndUnrecoverable).

    • lowA poster can post toBlock = type(uint64).max (or any far-future block); after the 24 h veto window this permanently disables propose and setPoster cannot repair itsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:175

      propose does not bound toBlock by block.number. With toBlock = type(uint64).max the next propose computes last.toBlock + 1 (line 183) in checked arithmetic and panics (0x11) for every caller forever; with any toBlock far in the future the same line forces every later window to start after it, foreclosing all intervening blocks.

      Only veto() inside the 24 h window undoes either, and the README's remedy for a bad poster, setPoster, does not help because the stuck epoch stays last. Worst case with a compromised poster and a governor that misses one 24 h window: the pilot is bricked for new epochs (no funds at risk beyond that epoch's capped total).

      Fix: require toBlock <= block.number (and fromBlock == floor) in propose, or compute the floor as toBlock + 1 only when it cannot overflow.

      1. poster: propose(root, 1e18, 1, type(uint64).max, '') -> epoch 0 accepted.

      2. warp +6 days (veto window missed).

      3. governor: setPoster(newPoster).

      4. newPoster: propose(root, 1e18, 1, 2, '').

      Expected: a new poster can keep posting epochs.

      Actual: reverts with arithmetic overflow panic at last.toBlock + 1; every future propose reverts the same way.

      Verified with a Foundry test under test/scratch/ (test_maxToBlockBricksPropose).

      Variant: toBlock = block.number + 10_000_000 passes, and every later epoch must start after a block years away.

    • lowAn unpayable epoch (root built for the wrong epoch index, or shares that never resolve) keeps its total in totalCommitted and its window consumed forever once the 24 h veto window has passedsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:197

      totalCommitted is reduced only by veto(), which is refused after 24 h.

      The builder derives the leaf's first field from the operator-supplied --epoch (build-tally.mjs line 35) and never reads epochCount() from the pilot, so a root built with the wrong index verifies for no leaf: every pay() reverts BadProof, yet the epoch's total stays counted against the 3,000 lifetime cap, its MIN_EPOCH_GAP is spent and its [fromBlock, toBlock] window is consumed (floor = toBlock + 1), so the paid work in it can never be re-posted.

      The same permanent reservation happens for shares that are legitimately posted but never resolve (agents with no ERC-721 binding are 'Unpayable' and 'stay payable', i.e. their amounts are committed forever). There is no retire/expire path for an epoch after its window.

      Fix: let the governor (or anyone, after a deadline) retire an epoch's unpaid remainder from totalCommitted, and have the builder read epochCount() and refuse a mismatching --epoch; when a window is retired, let the next floor fall back to it.

      1. epochCount() == 0; poster posts a root whose only leaf is keccak256(bytes.concat(keccak256(abi.encode(uint256(1), 7, 350e18)))) (built with --epoch 1) with total 350e18, window 100..200.

      2. warp +24 h; pay(0, [7], [350e18], [[]]) -> BadProof (the leaf for epoch 0 differs).

      3. governor: veto(0) -> VetoWindowClosed.

      4. totalCommitted() == 350e18 and stays so: only 2,650 imdUSD of lifetime capacity remains for real work.

      5. warp +6 days; propose(..., 100, 200) -> WindowNotAfterPrevious: the window's work cannot be recounted either.

      Verified with a Foundry test under test/scratch/ (test_unpayableEpochKeepsLifetimeCapacityForever).

    • infoBuilder ignores the on-chain Completed.status; exclusion of failed (status 2) oracle requests rests on the live API's status string and on the frozen document having no acceptancepilot/build-tally.mjs:147

      The Intake emits Completed with status 1 (refused) and 2 (ended without a result). The builder records status but never filters on it; a status-2 Completed whose uri is https://api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/ passes the uri regex and the IMD-payment test and becomes a candidate. It is then excluded only because (a) the live API answers a status other than 'attested' (line 165) and (b) the frozen job document has no oracleAcceptance.

      Both are plane-side data; the one on-chain fact the builder already holds (status != 0) is not used, contrary to the README's claim that the live API is used for one thing only. Status-1 events carry an /intake/... uri and are dropped by the regex, so refused requests are excluded correctly.

      Fix: if (c.args.status !== 0) { skip(status ${c.args.status}); continue; } before the API lookup.

      Dry-run window 26194146..26215746, Intake 0xa43e6F75ee006411F79Ac1C84120606C2330DE82: Completed events with status 2 for requestIds whose uri is https://api.imd.fun/oracle/requests/39cda5f9-453c-4bfa-8f84-d592fb707994 and .../0d6f8aa9-4738-447d-90cf-7cd7dcfbeac9.

      Stage 1 classifies both as 'candidate' (verified: 119 Completed events in the window, statuses {0:113, 1:3, 2:3}).

      They are dropped only at stage 2 because the API returns status 'disagreed' (checked live) and their frozen documents (2026-10-17 receipt) have oracleAcceptance.length == 0.

      Expected: a request the chain itself marks failed is excluded from on-chain data alone.

      Actual: inclusion/exclusion of that event depends entirely on api.imd.fun answering 'attested' or not; no on-chain input is consulted.

    • infoBuilder drops a paid request silently when its Requested event is more than 50,000 blocks before the window startpilot/build-tally.mjs:131

      A Completed event whose Requested event is more than LOOKBACK (50,000 blocks, about 7 days) before --from is recorded as skipped ('no Requested event in lookback') and the run proceeds and posts; unlike a missing receipt it is not treated as 'unproven', so the paid request is lost rather than deferred.

      Live requests carry validForSeconds 86400 and in the dry-run window every Completed was within the lookback (0 Requested events were found 50k..60k blocks before the window), so this is a latent edge rather than an observed loss.

      Fix: extend the lookback or query Requested by requestId without a lower bound, and treat a missing Requested as 'unproven' (exit 2) instead of a skip.

      Intake request Requested at block B (paid in IMD, action oracle.request@...), Completed with status 0 at block C >= B + 50_001, epoch window --from C-1 --to C+100.

      Expected: counted (it is a paid, attested request completed in the window) or the run refuses to post.

      Actual: skip('no Requested event in lookback'), tally.json written and postable without it.

    • infoTrust assumptions to state: the adapter at the hard-coded address is an ERC-1967 proxy whose upgrader can redirect every share; a governor can make itself poster; the only check on a root is the 24 h src/PaidOraclePilot.sol:99

      Verified on mainnet: 0xde152AfB...dD336 is an ERC-1967 proxy (implementation slot -> 0xa6d23f27...135f; admin slot zero, so the upgrade authority lives in the implementation). Whoever can upgrade it decides bindingOf for every agentId, hence every recipient of every share; it is also unreplaceable in the pilot (a constant), so a redeployed adapter makes every share Unpayable forever.

      Governor powers: setPoster(self) then post a 350 imdUSD root paying its own agents every 6 days up to 3,000 (and nobody vetoes, because the governor is the vetoer); veto() every honest epoch (a denial of service, no theft). A compromised poster alone is bounded to 350 per epoch that the governor fails to veto within 24 h, 3,000 lifetime, and the vault's earnLine (about 37,204 imdUSD live).

      Reading the governor live from Parameters is sound: Parameters.governor() is a source constant (Governed.sol) and ParameterizedVault.parameters is immutable, so there is no stored authority to drift. None of this is a bypass; it is the pilot's stated trust surface and should be recorded as such (and the adapter upgrader named) in the README.

      State: pilot installed as the vault's oracle, wage 1.

      Governor (Safe 0xbeFd1080...9C32) calls setPoster(SAFE), then propose(root paying agent X 350e18, 350e18, from, to); no veto; after 24 h anyone pays 350 imdUSD to X's controller; repeat every 6 days until totalCommitted == 3,000e18.

      Adapter upgrader: upgrade the proxy so bindingOf(any) returns {0, tokenContract: T, tokenId: 1} with T.ownerOf(1) == attacker; every subsequent pay() sends every share to the attacker (controllerOf reads only the adapter's answer).

    • infoExit path: after the wage returns to 0 or the oracle is replaced, every unpaid share (including 'Unpayable, stays payable' ones) is stranded; the pilot has no predecessor() so a successor must carry isrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:238

      Replacing the pilot requires Parameters.proposeWorkOracle with the wage at 0 and, since totalEarned != 0 after the first pay, a successor whose predecessor() == pilot (Parameters._validate). While the wage is 0, pay() reverts in the vault with WorkMintingOff; once the vault reads a successor, pay() reverts InsufficientRights (the successor reports no rights for the pilot).

      So every share posted but not yet paid, in particular agents skipped as Unpayable who later bind an ERC-721, can never be paid through this contract, and totalCommitted - totalPaid stays as a phantom commitment. The pilot exposes no view a successor could read to carry those shares (no predecessor(), no per-epoch remaining), beyond paidOut and epochs().

      This matches the README's 'Replacing the oracle later needs the wage back at 0 first' but the README does not say that unpaid shares are abandoned.

      Installation itself is fine: verified on a mainnet fork that proposeWorkOracle(pilot) is accepted at wage 0 (vault() matches, mintingRights(vault) answers 0, totalEarned == 0 and the live SwarmWorkOracle's totalCredited == 0), that wage 1 only opens earn, and that the old SwarmWorkOracle.claim then reverts NotTheVaultsOracle because vault.oracle() is the pilot.

      1. Pilot installed, epoch 0 posted with a leaf for agent U who has no binding; pay() skips U with Unpayable.
      2. Governor: proposeWage(0), 48 h, applyPending().
      3. U binds a seat; anyone calls pay(0, [U], [amt], [proof]). Expected (README): 'stays payable'. Actual: vault.earn reverts WorkMintingOff.
      4. Governor installs a successor S with predecessor() == pilot; proposeWage(1). pay(0, [U], ...) -> vault reads S, S.mintingRights(pilot) == 0 -> InsufficientRights. U's share is unpayable forever and epochs(0).total - epochs(0).paid remains committed.

    Answers to the seven questions

    1. Minting channel. No other path mints. Rights are nonzero only for the pilot and only between the assignment inside pay() and the vault's consumeRights; a revert in earn reverts the batch; the nonReentrant guard and the post-earn check that nothing remains authorised close re-entry; imdUSD transfers carry no hooks. Confirmed by the fork test and my duplicate-in-batch test.
    2. Caps. No way to exceed EPOCH_CAP or LIFETIME_CAP, pay beyond an epoch's total, pay a share twice, pay a vetoed epoch, or count a window twice. The inverse problem is real: an unpayable epoch keeps its total committed forever and burns lifetime capacity (low).
    3. Leaf encoding matches OpenZeppelin StandardMerkleTree exactly. Double hashing stops internal nodes posing as leaves, and the epoch inside the leaf stops cross-epoch reuse.
    4. Bindings. A reverting or gas-burning adapter or token is skipped per share as designed, and return-bombing is bounded by the stipend. A malformed Binding word from the adapter reverts the whole batch, and the adapter is an ERC-1967 proxy owned outside the protocol Safe (low). The 60k stipend suffices for the real seat collection.
    5. Compromise cases. Reading the governor live is sound since Parameters.governor() is pure. A compromised poster is capped, except that an unbounded toBlock permanently bricks propose() (low). Two window rules are wrong: gaps are accepted and lost forever, and a narrowed recount vetoed twice loses blocks (both low).
    6. Install and exit. Installation at wage 0 works on the live fork. Wage 1 only opens earn; earnLine, redemption and the old SwarmWorkOracle's claim behave as documented. Exit strands every unpaid share, and no in-repo successor can replace the pilot after its first mint (info).
    7. Builder. Counting, rounding and document hashing are correct and fail-safe. It does not filter on the on-chain Completed status, relying on the live API to exclude failed requests (verified: two status-2 completions in the dry-run window name oracle requests). It silently skips paid requests on API 404, non-attested status, or a Requested event older than the 50,000-block lookback, and never checks --from or --epoch against the chain (low).

    Specialist findings dropped or merged. None were dropped as false. The 27 specialist items collapsed into 10: four copies each of the toBlock, unpayable-epoch, status-filter and exit-path findings, three of the silent-skip family, two each of the contiguity and adapter findings. The lookback skip merged into the silent-skip finding. No critical or high findings exist, so only the toBlock finding carries a proof.

    • lowpropose() does not bound toBlock; toBlock = type(uint64).max (or any far-future block) permanently disables every later propose()src/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

      propose() only checks toBlock < fromBlock.

      1. poster: propose(bytes32(1), 1e18, 1, type(uint64).max, '') -> accepted (epoch 0).

      2. warp 7 days (veto window missed).

      3. governor: setPoster(newPoster); newPoster: propose(bytes32(1), 1e18, 1, 2, '') -> reverts Panic(0x11) arithmetic overflow at line 183 instead of WindowNotAfterPrevious; every later propose reverts the same way.

    • lowAn epoch whose shares can never be paid keeps its total in totalCommitted forever and consumes LIFETIME_CAP; nothing releases it after the 24 h veto windowsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:197

      totalCommitted rises by total at posting and is lowered only by veto(), which is refused once 24 h have passed.

      State: epochCount()==0.

      Poster posts root = keccak256(bytes.concat(keccak256(abi.encode(uint256(1), 7, 350e18)))) (a tree built with --epoch 1) with total 350e18, window 100..200.

      Warp 24 h: pay(0, [7], [350e18], [[]]) -> BadProof.

    • lowWindow contiguity is not enforced: propose() accepts fromBlock > floor and the builder never checks --from/--epoch against the chain, so skipped blocks are lost foreversrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:184

      1. poster: propose(root, 1e18, 100, 200, '') -> epoch 0.

      2. warp 6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 300, 400, '') -> accepted although blocks 201..299 were never counted.

      3. warp 6 days; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 299, '') -> reverts WindowNotAfterPrevious.

      Expected: step 2 refused (non-contiguous) or step 3 accepted.

      Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_gapBetweenWindowsAcceptedAndUnrecoverable.

    • lowFloor after two consecutive vetoes is the last vetoed epoch's fromBlock, so a narrowed recount that is vetoed again loses blocks no live epoch ever countedsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:183

      1. propose(root, 1e18, 100, 200) -> epoch 0 live.

      2. warp 6 d; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 300) -> epoch 1; governor veto(1).

      3. warp 6 d; propose(root, 1e18, 250, 300) -> epoch 2 (floor 201, accepted); governor veto(2).

      4. warp 6 d; propose(root, 1e18, 201, 300).

      Expected: accepted (201..300 never covered live).

      Actual: reverts WindowNotAfterPrevious because floor = epochs[2].fromBlock = 250; blocks 201..249 are lost for good.

      Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_floorAfterNarrowedRecountLosesBlocks.

    • lowcontrollerOf decodes the adapter's answer with abi.decode, so a malformed Binding word reverts the whole pay() batch instead of skipping the share; the hard-coded ADAPTER is an upgradeable proxy outsisrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:250

      Epoch with leaves (0, 1, 1e18) and (0, 2, 2e18); agent 2 bound to an ERC-721 seat. vm.mockCall(ADAPTER, abi.encodeCall(IPilotAdapter.bindingOf, (1)), abi.encode(uint256(256), uint256(uint160(seat)), uint256(11))) -> pay(0, [1,2], [1e18,2e18], proofs) reverts (abi.decode panic) instead of emitting Unpayable(0, 1) and paying agent 2.

      Same with the tokenContract word (1<<160 | seat).

      With vm.mockCallRevert on bindingOf(1) instead, pay() pays 2e18 and skips agent 1 as documented.

      Reproduced in test/scratch/PilotReview.t.sol::test_malformedBindingWordRevertsWholeBatch, ::test_malformedAddressWordRevertsWholeBatch, ::test_revertingBindingIsSkippedNotFatal.

    • lowBuilder ignores the on-chain Completed status; refused/failed requests (status 1/2) pass stage 1 and are excluded only by the live API's status stringpilot/build-tally.mjs:147

      Fix: if (c.args.status !== 0) { skip(completed with status ${c.args.status}); continue; } before the API lookup.

      Verified live (Tenderly RPC) in the dry-run window 26194146..26215746 on Intake 0xa43e6F75ee006411F79Ac1C84120606C2330DE82: 117 Completed events, statuses {0:113, 1:1, 2:3}; two status-2 completions name oracle requests 39cda5f9-453c-4bfa-8f84-d592fb707994 (tx 0x58ae424d15e8887cea1e59324c0687932a3e6bd034f9049b04d5d19b8c3c4197) and 0d6f8aa9-4738-447d-90cf-7cd7dcfbeac9 (tx 0xa65daf69f3570764f1654225f3caf8c8010bb781d0d10aae1503220b4888917b).

      Stage 1 (lines 136-149) classifies both as candidates; GET /oracle/requests/39cda5f9-... currently answers status 'disagreed', which is the only reason they are excluded.

      Input that pays for failed work: a status-2 Completed whose oracle request the API reports 'attested' and whose frozen document's attestation.requestId matches: its agents are credited 1.5 imdUSD.

      Expected: excluded from the on-chain status alone.

    • lowBuilder silently skips, rather than refusing to post, a paid request the live API cannot map (404 or non-attested status) or whose Requested event is older than the 50,000-block lookback; the posted wpilot/build-tally.mjs:164

    • infoExit path: after the wage returns to 0 or a successor is applied, every posted-but-unpaid share is stranded; the pilot has no predecessor(), so after its first mint neither address(0) nor another Paidsrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:238

      pay() mints only through vault.earn, which reads oracle().mintingRights(msg.sender).

      2. Governor: proposeWage(0), 48 h, applyPending().
      3. U binds an ERC-721 seat; pay(0, [U], [amt], [proof]) -> vault.earn reverts WorkMintingOff.
      4. Governor: proposeWorkOracle(address(0)) -> InvalidWorkOracle (totalEarned != 0); proposeWorkOracle(new PaidOraclePilot(vault, poster)) -> InvalidWorkOracle (predecessor() probe returns 0).
      5. With any successor S applied and wage 1: pay(0, [U], ...) -> S.mintingRights(pilot) == 0 -> InsufficientRights. epochs(0).total - epochs(0).paid stays in totalCommitted forever.
    • infoTrust assumptions to record: governor can appoint itself poster and is the only vetoer; a compromised poster is bounded by 350/epoch, 3,000 lifetime and one missed 24 h window; reading the governor lisrc/PaidOraclePilot.sol:139

    • infoBuilder checks attestation.requestId only on oracleAcceptance[0] while crediting every entry's agentId, and does not deduplicate two Intake requests naming the same oracle requestpilot/build-tally.mjs:176
