Build and publish WHEELY Stage for Squeekchain Genesis Code: an original stream companion with a theatrical OBS overlay + viewer second-screen mini-race. NOT a read-only dashboard, NOT a landing/link-hub, NOT a thin API wrapper, NOT a fork of squeekchain.com, and NOT another endless runner like Wheel Run.

Purpose: ship a memorable “stream companion / overlay” that feels like a live hamster stage driven by real wheel telemetry — creative enough for Genesis Swarm Review, not a bare HUD.

Product

1) /overlay — OBS Browser Source (primary)

  • Transparent page background (no solid body fill). Safe for 1280×720 and 1920×1080.
  • URL query toggles for modules (default all on), e.g. ?hud=1&stage=1&ticker=1
  • STAGE LAYER (the creative core):
    • Soft cartoon hamster + wheel vignette (original art / CSS / canvas; no stolen assets).
    • IDLE (measurement.coreStatus != ACTIVE): sleepy pose, dim sparks, slow breathe animation.
    • ACTIVE: speed lines density + spark intensity scale with rpmMilli; wheel spin visual tracks speedMmPerSecond when > 0.
    • On settledThroughRound increase: short celebrate flash + one local template caption line (rotating English one-liners about the round). No paid AI API required.
  • HUD LAYER:
    • ACTIVE/IDLE badge from measurement.coreStatus
    • RPM from rpmMilli/1000
    • Distance km from distanceMm
    • Settled round + blockHeight from builder.anchor
    • Freshness: if freshness != online OR age > staleAfterSeconds → STALE/OFFLINE chip; freeze last good numbers and stop fake motion.
  • No wallet, no keys, no contracts, no token claims.

2) /desk (or /) — viewer second screen

  • Same live fields, larger typography, dark playful original “WHEELY Stage” branding.
  • GHOST RACE mini-game (client-only): a viewer “ghost hamster” races the live wheel’s round distance progress; score is local only; no money, no wallet, no leaderboard server required (localStorage best score OK).
  • Short OBS setup blurb: add Browser Source → /overlay URL → enable transparency.
  • Footer: community stream companion · uses public api.squeekchain.com · not financial advice.

Data & quality gates

  • Poll https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/status every ~1.5–2s; bigint-safe parsing for numeric strings.
  • Network/CORS failure → Offline UI; never invent RPM/rounds.
  • English UI, responsive, no console errors on happy path.
  • Must pass design-critic.
  • Deliver public GitHub repo (full source + README with OBS steps) AND hosted public HTTPS site (imd.site / IPFS / equivalent).
  • This MUST be a real build-website job with host+deliver; do not only run content-check.

Work

  1. Posted37 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #73551 files changedsent back

WHEELY Stage is built and committed as d30339f on branch wheely-stage, with the source, lockfile and static export in dist/. It adds about 0.8 MB against the 8 MiB limit. The public GitHub repo and hosted site aren't done: this assignment says publishing happens after the job, from the committed dist/.

    What it does

    • /overlay/: a transparent OBS source that scales between 720p and 1080p, with hud, stage and ticker URL toggles.
      • Idle: a hamster in a nightcap sleeps and breathes slowly, with dim sparks.
      • Active: speed lines and sparks scale with RPM, and the wheel spin follows the real speed.
      • Round settled: a short flash, confetti and one rotating caption.
      • Stale or offline: a chip appears, the numbers freeze, the curtains partly close and nothing moves. If no data has ever arrived, the curtains stay shut and the fields show --.
    • / (the desk): the same live fields in large type, the Ghost Race mini-game and an OBS panel that builds and copies the overlay URL.
    • Ghost Race: you tap to race your ghost against the wheel's reported distance over 30 m. The best score stays in that browser only, and a heat run while the signal is down counts as practice and isn't saved.

    Check results

    CheckResult
    Production build and typecheckPassed
    Unit tests42 of 42 passed
Browser tests in Chromium, including one read of the real API29 of 29 passed
Design-critic probe, online and offline16 of 16 passed, both
Better Interface review of all six domains13 findings fixed, none left open

The tests also caught two real bugs, both fixed: steady tapping could never finish a race, and notices could push the Run button out from under a viewer's finger.

    What wasn't verified

    • Active wheel: the real wheel stayed idle in every sample I took, so the active state, the celebration and the moving wheel lane were only tested against a mocked API. The settled round did advance from 367 to 371 in the real feed during the work.
    • Race balance: idle readings changed only about once a minute. If the wheel reports that slowly while running too, its lane may barely move during a 20–30 second heat. I kept it showing reported distance only rather than inventing motion, so check this first once the wheel is running.
    • Safari and OBS: WebKit couldn't launch here because system libraries are missing, so Safari is untested. OBS itself wasn't run either; transparency was checked with a no-background screenshot in headless Chromium.
    • Accessibility: no screen-reader session, physical device test or native browser zoom was done.

    Choices to review

    • / instead of /desk: the brief allowed either, so /desk has no page of its own.
    • Ticker: it swaps one line at a time rather than scrolling, so it stays readable and stops completely when frozen.
    • Commit author: this machine has no git identity, so I passed Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> for this one commit. I kept your email out of it because the repo is meant to go public.
    • Branch: the work is on wheely-stage rather than main, so whatever publishes dist/ needs to read that branch.
    • .gitignore: I created one to keep node_modules out of Git, which your rules say needs a path budget. I wasn't given one, so please confirm it's acceptable.

Saved four reproducible findings in .imd-findings.json:

    • High: older cached responses keep expired telemetry live and animated.
    • Medium: the initial Space instruction scrolls past the race.
    • Medium: Space cannot operate OBS checkboxes during a race.
    • Medium: a simulated 65-second suspension leaves the heat showing 59.9 seconds remaining.

All 28 existing Chromium browser tests passed. Application files remain unchanged.

    • highbug: older cached responses keep expired telemetry live and animatedsrc/lib/live.ts:56

Now: applyStatus returns the entire previous state for every response older than the newest generatedAt. It never recalculates the age of the retained reading, so both routes can keep an expired ACTIVE reading and animation indefinitely.

Change to: discard the older payload values, but recompute ageSeconds from the retained reading and serverClock using nowMs; when that age exceeds staleAfterSeconds, set link to stale while preserving the last good numbers.

Why: the brief requires a STALE/OFFLINE chip and stopped motion whenever age exceeds staleAfterSeconds, including when an intermediary serves old data.

      Widths: 390x844 on / and 1280x720 on /overlay/.

      Intercept https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/status.

First return statusBody({now:T,ageSeconds:0,staleAfterSeconds:2,core:"ACTIVE",rpmMilli:72000,speed:690}); on every subsequent poll return the same shape with now:T-1000.

The existing tests/e2e/harness.mjs statusBody produces the complete payload.

Wait 5.5 s after load and compare canvas.toDataURL() twice 350 ms apart.

After four polls and 6.51 s (desk) / 6.48 s (overlay), actual: data-link="live", data-mode="active", no chip, "Updated 0 s ago", and differing canvas pixels.

Expected: STALE, frozen 72.0 RPM, no continuing animation once the two-second threshold is exceeded.

    • mediumbug: the ready-state Space instruction scrolls past the racesrc/desk/GhostRace.tsx:196

Now: the ready-state hint tells a new visitor to "Tap Run or press Space", although the button says "Start race" and the Space listener is installed only after a heat starts. Space on a newly loaded page scrolls the game away.

Change to: replace the ready-state hint with "Start a heat, then tap Run or press Space about three times a second. Mashing makes your ghost stumble."

Why: directions must name the existing control and accurately explain when its keyboard shortcut works.

      Width: 390x844, Chromium.

Open / with the default online statusBody() response and leave focus on the document body.

Read the Ghost race hint, then press Space once.

Actual: data-phase stays "ready", ghost stays 0.0 m, scrollY changes from 0 to 725 and the Start race button moves from y=676.67..732.67 to y=-48.33..7.67.

Expected from the instruction: start the heat, or explicitly tell the visitor to activate Start race first.

Control check: focusing .action and pressing Space does start the heat.

    • mediumaccessibility: the race Space handler prevents OBS checkbox operationsrc/desk/GhostRace.tsx:156

Now: during a heat the window keydown/keyup listeners prevent the default for every Space event, including events from the OBS setup checkboxes. A keyboard visitor cannot toggle any module until the heat ends, and the key instead becomes a race stride.

Change to: in both listeners, return without preventing default or calling tap when the event target is an input, textarea, select, contenteditable element, link, or a button other than the race action. Keep Space interception for the document and race button.

Why: focused form controls must retain their native keyboard operation; the OBS module controls are part of the supplied setup workflow.

Width: 390x844, Chromium, with an online statusBody() fixture.

Activate Start race, Tab to (or programmatically focus) the checkbox labelled "Show the hamster stage" in the OBS panel, and press Space.

Actual: isChecked() is true both before and after Space.

Expected: false after Space, with the overlay URL updating to stage=0.

The handler at this line calls preventDefault on the bubbled checkbox key event.

The same unconditional interception affects the other two module checkboxes.

    • mediumbug: a suspended tab discards elapsed time from the 60-second racesrc/desk/GhostRace.tsx:115

Now: each animation frame clamps the entire elapsed time to 0.1 seconds before advancing the heat. After a suspended tab or device sleep, the UI resumes an almost full 60-second countdown even though the stated heat duration has elapsed. Live wheel distance can still include the elapsed real interval, so the two lanes no longer use the same time window.

Change to: track the heat deadline from performance.now(), use the full elapsed interval for heat.t and the timeout outcome, and clamp only the motion integration step. Resolve an expired heat on the first resumed frame.

Why: a timer labelled "60 s heat" must expire after that interval, and both racers must be measured over the same heat.

      Width: 390x844, Chromium.

With Playwright, install page.clock before navigation, intercept the API with () => statusBody(), open /, wait for canvas[data-mode="idle"], and click Start race.

      Record performance.now() and .race-clock; call page.clock.fastForward(65000) to simulate a background/suspended interval.

Actual measurements: performance.now() advances from 349 to 65362 ms, but data-phase remains "running" and the countdown changes from "60.0 s left" to "59.9 s left".

Expected: done/time outcome with 0.0 s left after more than 60 seconds.

The same cap drops real elapsed time after tab suspension or any frame gap above 100 ms.

  4. Build websiteAgent #48817 files changed

Fixed all four findings and rebuilt dist/. Recorded responses in .imd-responses.json and updated documentation.

Build, typecheck, 47 unit tests and 14 component checks passed. Deliverable: 1.03 MiB.

Browser/E2E and design-probe verification remain incomplete: Chromium failed during startup with socket-path errors and SIGTRAP. Details are in VALIDATION.md.

  5. Design criticAgent #36found nothing

All four findings from last round are fixed. I checked each one in Chromium against the built site (dist/) using my reproduction from last round. Nothing new turned up, so .imd-findings.json holds {"findings":[]}. I changed no other files and deleted my scratch scripts.

    The four findings, rechecked

    • [high] Old cached replies kept expired readings live: fixed. The first reply was a fresh reading with a 2 s stale limit; every later reply was dated 1 s earlier. After 4 polls and about 6 s, both pages showed STALE, "Frozen, last update 5 s ago" and the frozen 72.0 RPM. That was / at 390×844 and /overlay/ at 1280×720. Two canvas snapshots 350 ms apart were identical, so the motion stops. There were no console errors. The fix is the older-reply branch in src/lib/live.ts:56–64.
    • [medium] Ready-state Space hint: fixed. The hint now reads "Choose Start race, then tap Run or press Space about three times a second to reach 30 m. Mashing makes your ghost stumble." It names the button that is actually there and says Space only works once a heat has started (src/desk/GhostRace.tsx:206).
    • [medium] Space blocked the OBS checkboxes during a heat: fixed. I started a heat, focused "Show the hamster stage" and pressed Space. The box went from checked to unchecked, the overlay URL changed to ...?hud=1&stage=0&ticker=1, and the heat kept running (GhostRace.tsx:159–165).
    • [medium] A suspended tab lost race time: fixed. I started a heat at "60.0 s left" and fast-forwarded the clock by 65 s. On the next frame the race ended: "0.0 s left", with the result line "Time. Your ghost covered 0.1 m…". The deadline now comes from performance.now(), and only the ghost's movement step is capped (GhostRace.tsx:117–118, src/lib/race.ts:53–56).

Requirements: I didn't re-walk the full brief list this round, only the requirements these fixes touched; the list is otherwise as last round left it. The STALE/OFFLINE chip with frozen numbers and stopped motion is now met on both pages, as are the Ghost race directions and the OBS setup panel's module toggles. The public GitHub repo and hosted HTTPS site are after review.

The idea: WHEELY Stage is a stream companion whose one visual idea is a cartoon hamster on a wheel that sleeps, sprints and celebrates as the real wheel data comes in.

What I couldn't check: WebKit won't start on this machine because system libraries it needs (libavif, libmanette, libsecret and others) are missing. So all four fixes are confirmed in Chromium only.
