Build 'Squeek Wheel Arena', a real-time hamster racing and prediction game powered by Squeekchain's live state. One website, two game modes selectable from a home menu, one shared live hamster. MODE 1 RACE (skill): a playable endless-runner where the player controls a cute hamster and races a ghost opponent running at Squeektoshi's REAL live speed, pulled from Squeekchain's public API (distance/speed/current round).

Dodge pellets, ramps and gaps with jump and slide. MODE 2 PREDICT (knowledge): before each round the player places a quick bet (over/under on the hamster's distance, or sprint-vs-rest), informed by a live form guide of the hamster's recent pace history, then wins or loses against the actual round result when that round closes.

DATA (read-only, no contract or wallet integration): pull live hamster state from Squeekchain's public API at api.squeekchain.com/v1/status (hamster distance, speed, current and latest round). Settle every outcome against the real round result that API reports. No crypto wallet connection and no third-party login service are needed: points and the leaderboard are tracked by the site itself, and the builders choose the simplest robust way to run them.

Both modes settle every outcome against the real round, never fake or random. One shared points system, one leaderboard, weekly streak badges. DESIGN QUALITY (strict, no generic AI look): use Squeekchain's real brand system.

Fonts: Barlow Condensed (200/300/600) for display and headings, IBM Plex Mono (400) for numbers and live readouts, Quicksand (600) for buttons and labels - never a default font.

Colors: dark background near #1A1A20, neutral graphite surfaces and hairline borders, one gold accent used rarely (the primary action and the live distance figure), one blue secondary accent for the tile/glyph motif.

Quiet chrome: no gradients, no glows, no gradient text, no emoji used as icons, no uppercase wide-tracked labels, no pulsing loops. Sentence case everywhere, tabular numerals for live data, spacing on a consistent grid, typography hierarchy at weights 400-600. The one bright moment is the game itself and the live hamster readout.

This must look hand-designed and memorable, not AI-generated.

Work

  1. Posted35 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #4743 files changed

Squeek Wheel Arena is fully written, but it has never been run, so this delivery is incomplete. This machine couldn't start a shell or a browser, so there was no build, typecheck, test, rendering or play-through. I also couldn't commit, because git needs a shell, so all the files are uncommitted in the working tree.

    What the tools answered

    • Bash, about a dozen tries through the session: Sandbox is required but failed to initialize: Failed to create bridge sockets after 5 attempts. Restart to retry.
    • Browser, both tries: FATAL ... Socket path too long: .../.cache/tmp/org.chromium.Chromium.*/SingletonSocket, then Chromium aborted.

The session's temp path looks too long for a Unix socket, though that's my inference for the Bash failure. I didn't use the Playwright code runner to launch commands, because that would bypass the required sandbox.

    What's there

    • Home: a live readout with the gold distance figure, and a wheel that only turns at Squeektoshi's reported rpm.
    • Race: an endless runner with jump and slide, past pellets, ramps and gaps. The ghost moves only on a live running reading, and a metre in the game is a metre on his wheel.
    • Predict: over/under and sprint-vs-rest bets on the next round, with a form guide and payouts based on recent rounds.
    • Leaderboard: shared points, weekly streak badges and score codes for comparing with friends.
    • Docs: README.md, DESIGN.md and VALIDATION.md, which holds the six-domain review, findings and limitations.

Every outcome settles on real round data: each round's work is the change in cumulative work reported by /v1/status and /v1/core. The brief only names /v1/status, but it has no round timing or history, so I also read those from the same public API. A round the API hasn't reported stays open and is never counted as zero.

    Acceptance criteria

    CriterionState
Usable site with responsive layoutsWritten, never rendered
dist/ with relative URLs, source and lockfileWritten but not committed; dist/ is a hand copy of src/ (same files and line counts, no byte comparison)
Build, typecheck and interaction checks runNot met: none ran, and VALIDATION.md records this
Better Interface reviewSource only; every browser check is listed as not done
Product and main action on first screen at 390, plus share tagsTags present; the first screen is only estimated from the CSS
DESIGN.md and READMEDone, but DESIGN.md values come from source, not a rendered page

    Decisions and known gaps

    • No Vite or React: the site is plain JavaScript modules with no dependencies, because that's the only way to produce a working export without a toolchain. The lockfile is real but has nothing in it.
    • Fonts: they load from Google Fonts because I couldn't download the font files.
    • Share image: og:image is an SVG, and many link previews won't show it.
    • Leaderboard: it's kept in each browser and says so on screen. A static site has no server, and score codes are self-reported.
    • Bet payouts during rest: his wheel was idle the whole session, so I never saw a running reading or a closed round with real work. Race balance is untested too.
    • Returning late: a bet is voided and refunded if its round has dropped out of the API's last 25 settlement events before you come back.

    Next step

Run these on a machine with a working shell, then play it at 390 and 1440 wide. The first run may turn up runtime errors or failing tests, since everything so far was only checked by reading the code.

Saved five medium findings with exact source citations and executed reproductions in .imd-findings.json:

    • bug: Resuming after settlement awards a second bonus for the same race round.
    • bug: Rate limiting leaves expired speed labelled live.
    • bug: Submitting at the betting deadline silently selects the following round.
    • bug: An unavailable pace median becomes “0.0 m”.
    • bug: Race instructions promise a bonus that resting rounds never pay.

The 21 existing tests pass; the export matches the source. Site code was unchanged. Chromium could not launch and WebKit was unavailable, so this is not visual approval. “Met” below means supported by source inspection and executable logic checks.

    • mediumbug: resuming a race after settlement pays the same round twicesrc/js/store.js:117

Now: bankRace searches only pending entries, so metres banked after an earlier run in that round settles create a second payable race and a second win bonus.

Change to: keep one race ledger per player and round; bank active progress before settlement and reconcile late progress against the existing entry, crediting only the difference in that round’s single payout.

Why: the displayed rule adds all metres for one round and caps that round at 300 base points plus one 100-point win bonus; the shared points and win totals must follow that rule.

Width: independent of viewport (390px race flow).

At 2026-11-05T19:49:55Z, with genesis=1793735400 and roundSeconds=600, start round 288, run two seconds, return to the menu, re-enter Race, run another 1.3 seconds and pause.

At 19:50:01Z let round 288 settle with one wheel turn (0.878m), then resume and allow the next settlement pass.

Executed the actual mountRace start, animation loop, destroy, pause and resume handlers plus settlePending in Node with controlled animation frames and an in-memory DOM/canvas/storage adapter.

Measured: the first 2.0241m entry settles for 102 points; resume banks 1.318669m to a new entry for the same round, paying another 101.

Final balance 703 and wins 2; expected a single 3.342769m round worth 103 points, balance 603 and wins 1. view-race.js:198 skips banking while paused, and :208-211 banks the old round on resume.

Browser execution was unavailable; this is an executed view/store lifecycle reproduction.

    • mediumbug: rate limiting leaves an expired wheel reading labelled livesrc/js/api.js:170

Now: reading() trusts the freshness string stored in the last successful response, while the 429 branch preserves phase=ok. During Retry-After the home wheel and race ghost continue using an expired speed as live.

Change to: compute expiry from measurement.receivedAt plus staleAfterSeconds against the synchronized clock on every reading; mark the reading stale and stop the ghost once expired, including during 429 backoff and retry.

Why: the brief requires Squeektoshi’s REAL live speed. A cached ACTIVE reading is no longer evidence of current movement after its freshness deadline.

Width: independent of viewport; affects home and race at 390px and 1440px.

      Serve a successful /v1/status measurement at 2026-11-05T19:40:05Z with freshness=online, coreStatus=ACTIVE, receivedAt and observedAt equal to that time, staleAfterSeconds=120, speedMmPerSecond=1000, rpmMilli=60000 and distanceMm=1000.

Five seconds later return HTTP 429 with Retry-After: 600.

Advance the clock 121 more seconds without another response.

Executed the real api.js polling and reading functions in Node with controlled fetch, timers and Date.now.

      Measured at age 126s: phase=ok, reading().stale=false, wheelLabel()="Squeektoshi is running", ghostSpeed()=1 m/s, retry still 479s away.

Expected: stale label and no live ghost motion after age 120s.

The public freshness contract is documented at https://docs.squeekchain.com/developers/api/#pipeline-status-get-v1status.

Browser execution was unavailable; the state and returned UI label were measured directly.

    • mediumbug: a bet submitted at the lock boundary moves to the following roundsrc/js/view-predict.js:96

Now: submit() recomputes the target and prices instead of validating the market the player selected. Between the last one-second UI update and submission, the round can roll over and the stake is charged for the following round under the old heading.

Change to: capture the displayed round, line and multiplier with the selection; on submit reject a changed or closed market, clear the selection and refresh with “That round has started. Choose an outcome for the next round.” Deduct points only after the player confirms the refreshed market.

Why: a prediction must settle the specific round the player chose before it started; silently substituting another round is a different bet.

Width: independent of viewport (390px Predict flow).

With genesis=1793735400 and roundSeconds=600, render Predict at 2026-11-05T19:49:59.500Z with recent known zero-work rounds.

The heading is “Call round 289”.

Select Rest and the 100-point stake; submit at 19:50:00.250Z before the one-second view refresh.

Executed mountPredict/update, the real radio change handler and form submit handler in Node using an in-memory DOM/storage adapter and a controlled clock.

Measured: heading remains “Call round 289”, but the stored pending entry has round=290, stake=100 and balance falls from 500 to 400; status says “Bet placed on round 290.” Expected: reject the expired round-289 selection without charging points.

Browser execution was unavailable; handler behavior and rendered text were measured directly.

    • mediumbug: the form guide turns an unknown active-round median into zero metressrc/js/view-predict.js:236

Now: Number(stats?.medianActiveWork) converts a valid null statistic to 0, and the form guide presents “Median active, 7 days: 0.0 m” as measured history.

Change to: test for null or undefined before conversion; render “Not available” for this statistic, or omit its row and let the remaining facts close the space. Preserve real numeric zeroes only where the API reports them.

Why: Predict is meant to inform a bet using real recent form. Missing active-round history is not a measured zero-distance active round.

Width: independent of viewport (390px and 1440px Predict).

Return /v1/measurement/stats?range=7d with rounds.medianActiveWork=null and rounds.activeRateBps=0, a valid schema state when no active rounds have been observed; let core supply 24 known zero-work rounds.

      Execute mountPredict(root).update().

Measured with the real view and an in-memory DOM adapter: the stat text is “Median active, 7 days 0.0 m”.

Expected: “Not available” or no median row.

Squeekchain’s published schema explicitly allows null at properties.rounds.properties.medianActiveWork via $defs.d4_nullableDecimal: https://docs.squeekchain.com/assets/api/measurement-stats.json.

Browser execution was unavailable; this exact rendered text was obtained by executing the view.

    • mediumbug: the race instructions promise a bonus that resting rounds never paysrc/js/view-race.js:59

Now: the instructions promise your metres plus 100 whenever you beat his round, but settleEntry pays only half and records no win whenever his wheel stayed still. The home explanation repeats the unconditional promise.

Change to: replace the race explanation with “Points settle after the round closes: up to 300 for your metres, plus 100 if you beat a round in which his wheel turned. Otherwise you earn half, up to 150.” Replace the home line with “Your runs add up during each round. Beat his distance in a round where the wheel turned to earn the win bonus.”

Why: visitors need the actual scoring rule before playing; the resting-wheel exception is common and changes both points and streak eligibility.

Width: independent of viewport; the same explanation appears on Race at 390px and 1440px.

Read “your metres up to 300, plus 100 if you beat his round.

Otherwise half your metres.” Complete 20m in a round that closes with zero wheel turns.

      Executed settleEntry({kind:"race",metres:20},0): actual status=rest, payout=10, result=0.

The displayed formula implies 20+100=120 because 20m beats 0m.

The same contradictory promise is in src/js/view-home.js:83.

Expected: disclose the zero-work exception before Start race and in the shared explanation.

Copy and settlement were checked directly; browser rendering was unavailable.
