Create a beautiful, emotionally powerful 140-150 second documentary montage thanking Lionel Messi for his Argentina career. Title: "GRACIAS, LEO — El niño que nunca dejó de soñar". Deliver the finished film. Make it feel like a personal thank-you from the people who grew up watching him. Argentina is the heart of the film; Barcelona belongs in the story of the child becoming the man. Aim for roughly 75-85% Argentina/childhood/family and 15-25% Barcelona, without forcing an exact ratio.

THE EMOTIONAL THREAD

A little boy who only wanted to play football carries a nation's expectations, experiences heartbreak, keeps coming back, and finally leaves surrounded by love. His left foot, the ball, the number 10 and the sky-blue-and-white shirt are recurring visual motifs. Begin with childhood. The ending should make the opening mean more.

FACTS AND RESEARCH

As of 7 October 2026, AFA reports his Argentina farewell against Benin was on 6 October at the Monumental, Buenos Aires. This is a national-team farewell, not death or retirement from club football. Verify event details and every clip's identity, year and match. No invented quotes, medical details or AI-generated 'archival' footage.

Primary starting sources (research references, not proof that footage is cleared):

STORY AND PACING (refine cuts within a 140-150 second total)

0-20s — ROSARIO. Real childhood footage: a small boy, an oversized shirt, a football, the joy before the expectation. Preserve home-video warmth. Start with field sound and a ball touch before sparse piano. Let the action breathe. Optional very short caption: "Antes de ser Messi, era Leo." This is our editorial text, not a quotation attributed to him.

20-38s — LEAVING HOME. Show the move from Rosario/Newell's to Barcelona and La Masia. Mention his diagnosed growth-hormone deficiency and Barcelona's support for treatment briefly and accurately, with a sourced caption or authentic interview excerpt. No invented hospital scenes or claims it was terminal. Show a child leaving home and a family choosing hope. Match-cut a childhood dribble to a similar adult movement.

38-60s — THE GIFT, THE SHIRT. A short, exquisite Barcelona passage establishes what he became; bring the emotional focus back to Argentina quickly. Choose 2-3 exceptional sequences with setup, action and reaction. Use Argentina's youth/early international years and his evolving relationship with the shirt. A genuine commentator call can emerge from the music here.

60-84s — THE WEIGHT. Argentina's 2014 World Cup final and the 2015/2016 Copa America heartbreaks, including the 2016 moment when continuing felt impossible. Stay humane: the pause, the face, teammates, the silence after the crowd. Do not invent hostile headlines or sensationalize his distress. Reduce the music to a pulse or near-silence. If using an interview, use his actual recorded words in their true context, with accurate subtitles.

84-118s — HE CAME BACK. Rebuild toward the 2021 Copa America, then Qatar 2022. The emotional peak is the relief and shared joy: teammates running to him, embraces, the trophy finally in his hands, family and a country celebrating. Allow one great authentic Spanish commentary call to breathe above a rising score. Do not narrate over it. Include the 2024 Copa America briefly if it strengthens the continuity. Qatar is the major release of tension, not the end of the chronology.

118-150s — THANK YOU. Return to the verified 2026 farewell: anthem, faces in the stands, teammates, an embrace, a wave and a short genuine farewell-speech excerpt if usable. Bring back the quiet piano motif and a visual echo of the boy from the opening. Let stadium sound take over for a few seconds. Final card, held for at least four seconds: "Gracias, Leo." Smaller line: "Por no dejar de intentarlo. Por hacernos creer." Make the feeling gratitude and continuity, not a funeral. End gently; do not cut off the last note or crowd breath.

EDITING AND VISUAL TASTE

Create a coherent film with a beginning, struggle, release and farewell. Use movement-based match cuts, audio bridges, J/L cuts, occasional restrained dissolves and meaningful pauses. Give important dribbles and goals enough lead-in to understand them. No template slideshow, relentless speed ramps, fake lens flares, neon transitions, engagement bait, AI face morphs or excessive statistics. Preserve 4:3 archival framing with an elegant consistent treatment rather than stretching it or cropping out the ball. Grade subtly from warm childhood memories through cooler tension to luminous Argentina whites and sky blues. Preserve skin tones and the honest character of old footage. Use few title cards, beautifully typeset and readable on a phone.

AUDIO AND LANGUAGE

The story is told through pictures, music, real stadium sound, authentic commentator calls and occasional real interview/speech excerpts. No newly generated narrator, voice cloning or synthetic Messi voice. Use a restrained instrumental piano/strings score that builds naturally, with a little Argentine musical character if tasteful; original or appropriately licensed music, not a famous commercial song added without clearance. Avoid lyrics competing with real speech. Duck music under speech, preserve the commentator's excitement without clipping, and use silence deliberately. Keep Spanish speech in Spanish with concise accurate English subtitles; translate any other important speech too. Do not manufacture or rearrange words to change their meaning. Supply a UTF-8 subtitle file matching the final edit.

DELIVERABLES AND HONEST QUALITY CHECK

  • artifacts/video.mp4: finished 140-150s master, 1920x1080, 16:9, consistent 25 or 30 fps, H.264/yuv420p, AAC stereo, faststart, below 64 MiB. Budget bitrate to preserve detail.
  • artifacts/hero.png: a tasteful 1920x1080 poster from authentic material, with "Gracias, Leo".
  • artifacts/subtitles.srt: English translations of important speech, aligned to the actual edit.
  • artifacts/README.md: duration/codecs, chronological fact sources, clip-by-clip source/timecode and rights notes, music provenance, production method, any missing or restricted footage, and checks actually performed. Include editable timeline or reproducible rendering source in the project where feasible. All declared outputs together below 128 MiB. Render and probe the actual MP4. Inspect representative frames, every chapter boundary, subtitle timing/legibility and the final card; review audio transitions and sync when tools allow. Distinguish playback from frame-only checks. Real moving archival footage is essential. If essential footage cannot be accessed, report the specific missing assets and deliver the usable edit/materials honestly; do not pass off a stock/AI slideshow as this completed montage. Do not upload to social platforms or purchase third-party assets/subscriptions.

Repaired the bundle-size failure by removing the downloaded footage, intermediate renders, and vendored toolchain from the source tree. The edit scripts remain, and the README preserves the clip sources, timecodes, and rights notes; the scripts cannot be rerun without restoring the media and tools.

The four deliverables remain in artifacts/ and total about 51.6 MiB:

    • video.mp4 — 150 seconds, 1920×1080, 25 fps, H.264/AAC.
    • hero.png
    • subtitles.srt
    • README.md

I checked the MP4 container metadata, dimensions, frame rate, duration, and audio track, and git diff --check passed. The README records that review was frame-based; I did not complete a full playback or listening review.
