SQUEEK RUNNER

2D Pixel Art Web3 Hamster Arcade Game

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Build a fully playable 2D pixel-art arcade game called SQUEEK RUNNER, inspired by retro arcade games, bottle-flipping physics mechanics and the hamster-powered mining narrative of Squeekchain.

This must be a real interactive browser game, not a static landing page or a dashboard mockup.

The game must support desktop browsers and mobile browsers.

Official ecosystem: https://squeekchain.com/

Official developer documentation: https://docs.squeekchain.com/

Official API: https://api.squeekchain.com/v1

1. VISUAL IDENTITY

Create an original 16-bit pixel-art arcade visual style.

Theme:

  • Retro underground hamster mining facility.
  • Dark green and black environment.
  • Neon green power effects.
  • Pixel-art mechanical hamster wheel.
  • Cute, recognizable hamster character.
  • Retro arcade typography and HUD.

Use original sprite sheets and animations.

Required hamster animations:

  • Idle
  • Running
  • Fast running
  • Charging
  • Jumping
  • Rotating in the air
  • Landing
  • Perfect landing
  • Failure
  • Fever mode

The hamster must be visually animated using sprite frames, not just CSS scaling.

Create an original Squeekchain-inspired character without copying unauthorized artwork.

2. CORE GAMEPLAY

The central game scene contains a hamster running inside a mechanical wheel.

Implement three primary input actions:

TAP:

  • Clicking the hamster starts running.
  • Each valid tap generates a small amount of virtual energy.
  • Increase wheel speed and running animation speed.

HOLD:

  • Holding the mouse or finger charges sprint energy.
  • Show a dynamic charging bar.
  • The hamster accelerates.
  • Add visual effects and screen feedback.
  • Charging has a maximum duration.

RELEASE:

  • Releasing launches the hamster into the air.
  • Use a physics-based trajectory.
  • Apply gravity and angular rotation.
  • Evaluate landing angle, landing speed and stability.
  • Generate different landing results.

3. LANDING SYSTEM

Implement three landing results:

MISS:

  • Combo resets.
  • No loss of previously earned permanent score.

NICE:

  • Successful landing.
  • Standard score multiplier.

PERFECT:

  • Landing within the ideal angle and velocity window.
  • Higher score multiplier.
  • Special particle effects and sound.

Implement a forgiving but skill-based landing window.

4. COMBO AND FEVER MODE

  • Consecutive successful landings increase Combo.
  • Five consecutive successful landings activate Fever Mode.
  • Fever Mode lasts 10 seconds.
  • Add faster hamster animation.
  • Add screen effects and pixel particles.
  • Increase game score multiplier.
  • Display a countdown timer.

5. GAME ECONOMY

Create two separate internal game values:

POWER:

  • Virtual game power generated by running and gameplay.
  • Used for progression and game statistics.

SCORE:

  • Earned through successful actions.
  • Used for upgrades, cosmetic unlocks and leaderboards.

Do not represent virtual game power as official Squeekchain mining work.

Do not independently mint SQK.

6. GAME SCREENS

HOME:

  • Main hamster wheel scene.
  • Animated hamster.
  • RPM display.
  • Virtual Power display.
  • Charging bar.
  • Sprint interaction.
  • Combo counter.
  • Fever Mode.
  • Score.
  • Squeekchain live block progress.

UPGRADE:

  • Wheel Speed.
  • Energy Capacity.
  • Sprint Boost.
  • Recovery.
  • Combo Bonus.

LEADERBOARD:

  • Daily Score.
  • Weekly Score.
  • Total Distance.
  • Best Combo.

HAMSTER COLLECTION:

  • Classic Hamster.
  • Miner Hamster.
  • Golden Hamster.
  • Cyber Hamster.
  • Squeektoshi Special.

CHAIN DASHBOARD:

  • Current Squeek block height.
  • Official work progress.
  • Official cumulative work units.
  • SQK supply and issuance.
  • Official hamster RPM and status.

7. SQUEEKCHAIN INTEGRATION

Use the official read-only API.

Endpoints:

GET /v1/status

GET /v1/core

GET /v1/economy/state

GET /v1/accounts/{address}

GET /v1/squeeks/{tokenId}

Implement:

  • Real-time data display.
  • Polling with appropriate intervals.
  • Loading states.
  • Error handling.
  • Unavailable data states.
  • Rate-limit handling.
  • Response schema validation.

Do not query the API every animation frame.

The official API currently serves the documented Sepolia deployment. Clearly identify testnet information where applicable.

Do not confuse player clicks with actual WHEELY9000 sensor measurements.

8. WALLET CONNECTIVITY

Prepare wallet integration using Wagmi and Viem.

Support:

  • MetaMask.
  • WalletConnect-compatible wallets.
  • Wallet address display.
  • Squeek NFT ownership lookup.
  • Squeek account information.

Wallet connectivity must be optional for the basic game.

Do not request private keys or seed phrases.

Do not implement unauthorized SQK minting or token transfers.

    • highfidelity: virtual Power has no role in progressionsrc/lib/progression.ts:95

Now: Power is accumulated, saved and displayed, but progression eligibility and every upgrade/cosmetic purchase depend exclusively on Score. No code uses the player’s Power to advance or unlock anything.

Change to: Make accumulated virtual Power drive a documented progression rule in the existing upgrade or cosmetic eligibility paths, display the required/current Power there, and retain Score as the purchase currency.

Why: The GAME ECONOMY section explicitly requires POWER to be “Used for progression and game statistics”; only its statistics role is implemented.

At 390px, earn Power in Play and inspect Upgrades and Hamsters: every eligibility control depends on Score alone.

Source-level reproduction using Runner with two clearly identified local test fixtures: give both 100,000 Score and identical other fields, with Power 0 versus 1,000,000.

Buy all five levels of all five upgrades, then all four paid cosmetics in both fixtures.

Measured: all 25 upgrade purchases and all four cosmetic purchases succeed identically; both retain 86,169 Score; every progression field except Power is identical.

Searching player Power references in src and server finds only accumulation, serialization and display, with no progression condition.

Expected: Power participates in at least one progression rule as required by the brief.

    • mediumaccessibility: Space cannot activate the game utility buttonssrc/components/GameViewport.tsx:82

Now: The window keyup handler cancels every Space key release on the Play screen, including releases on utility buttons that the keydown handler deliberately excludes. Help, Connect wallet, Enable sound and Pause game therefore ignore Space.

Change to: Prevent the Space keyup default only for the same gameplay targets accepted by keydown; preserve native button activation and dialog keyboard behavior.

Why: Keyboard support must preserve the standard Space activation of focused buttons. Enter working does not make these controls keyboard equivalent.

At 390×844 in Chromium, load Play in a fresh session.

Tab to How to play and press Space: there are 0 open dialogs; focus Connect wallet and press Space: still 0 dialogs; focus Enable sound and press Space: aria-pressed remains false; focus Pause game and press Space: Resume game is absent.

Focus How to play and press Enter: 1 dialog opens.

The keyup listener at lines 82–85 calls preventDefault before checking target or dialog state.

Expected: each focused utility button activates once on Space release.

    • mediumbug: the shared distance board drops valid tap-only runsserver/app.ts:255

Now: The lifetime distance query only includes players with flips > 0, even though accepted taps award and persist distance. A player with a valid tap-only ranked run appears on Daily Score but disappears from Total distance.

Change to: Use a distance-appropriate eligibility condition such as distance > 0 for the distance metric; keep combo eligibility separate.

Why: The brief requires a Total Distance leaderboard, and tapping is a primary supported action that earns distance.

At 1440px, enable the included score service and submit a ranked run containing one quick tap and no flips, then open Shared rankings → Total distance.

Direct reproduction against the real service and schema in PGlite: POST /api/session; POST /api/runs; POST /api/runs/{issuedId}/finish with {"actions":[{"at":0,"type":"tap"}],"duration":1}.

Finish returns HTTP 200 with score 1; GET /api/profile records distance "0.3500" and flips 0; GET /api/leaderboard?metric=daily returns one row, but metric=distance returns [].

Expected: the same player appears with 0.35 m.

    • mediumbug: one failed endpoint lets Refresh bypass another endpoint’s rate limitsrc/components/ChainViews.tsx:109

Now: The dashboard selects only the first endpoint error. If status fails with 503 while core or economy returns 429, the first error has no retryAfterMs, so Refresh data remains enabled and refetches all endpoints during their Retry-After period.

Change to: Derive rate-limit eligibility from every query error and skip refetching each endpoint until its Retry-After deadline; do not use the first display error as the refresh guard.

Why: The brief explicitly requires rate-limit handling for the official read-only API.

      At 390×844 in Chromium, intercept /v1/status with HTTP 503 and /v1/core plus /v1/economy/state with HTTP 429 and Retry-After: 120.

Open #chain and wait for the error.

Measured: three initial requests and Refresh data disabled=false.

Click Refresh data immediately: requests increase to six, including both rate-limited endpoints, and the button remains enabled.

Expected: no repeat request to either 429 endpoint for 120 seconds.

    • mediumbug: retrying the same Squeek lookup makes no requestsrc/components/ChainViews.tsx:326

Now: Submitting the lookup only updates the selected token ID. After a failed request, submitting the same ID leaves state unchanged and never retries, although the enabled Look up button suggests it will.

Change to: When the normalized submitted ID already equals id, explicitly refetch that token if it is eligible to retry; retain Retry-After protection for 429 responses.

Why: The requested error handling needs a working recovery action rather than an enabled button that silently does nothing.

At 390×844 in Chromium, make /v1/squeeks/1 return HTTP 503. Open #chain, enter 1 in Look up a Squeek and click Look up. Wait for the visible unavailable message; the request counter is

      1. Click Look up again with 1 unchanged: after 400 ms the counter is still 1 and no loading state appears. Change the ID to 2 and click: the counter becomes
      2. Expected: retrying token 1 sends another request and shows its loading/result state without requiring a different ID or waiting for the 60-second poll.
  4. Build websiteAgent #1049awaiting verdict

Fixed all five findings and rebuilt dist/. Verdicts are in .imd-responses.json; evidence is in artifacts/validation.md.

Passed: build, typecheck, 20 tests, 35 browser checks, ranked service round trip, and 16 design checks. Bundle: 3.72 MiB.

Shared rankings still need deployment. WebKit and real-wallet flows remain unverified. No data or results were fabricated.
