The whole request

Release Ratelimit (token symbol RATE) on Sepolia as a univ4_hook launch.

Token: Ratelimit (RATE), total supply 1,000,000,000 RATE with 18 decimals, minted once to the deployer.

Hook: SwapRateLimitHook, a Uniswap v4 hook on the token's native-ETH pool (currency0 native ETH, currency1 RATE, LP fee 3000, tickSpacing 60; the factory seeds one-sided RATE liquidity, so the first buy lands in a pool holding no ETH). In v4, amountSpecified < 0 is exact input and zeroForOne is a buy (ETH in, RATE out).

The hook extends v4-periphery BaseHook; constructor (IPoolManager poolManager) with the Sepolia PoolManager 0xE03A1074c86CFeDd5C142C4F04F1a1536e203543. getHookPermissions enables exactly beforeSwap only (no deltas, no fees); the manifest lists the same set. State is keyed by PoolId, so any pool may attach the hook. No owner, no admin.

Rule: at most 3 swaps per pool per block. beforeSwap keeps (uint64 blockNumber, uint8 count) per PoolId, resets when block.number changes, and reverts RateLimited(blockNumber) on the 4th and later swap in the block, whatever the router, sender or size; a transaction that batches four swaps reverts as a whole. Liquidity changes and donations are not counted.

Events: SwapCounted(PoolId indexed poolId, uint256 blockNumber, uint8 count).

View: swapsInBlock(PoolId) -> (uint256 currentBlock, uint8 used, uint8 remaining), where currentBlock = block.number, used is the stored count if the stored block is the current one and 0 otherwise, and remaining = 3 - used. Tests run against a real v4-core PoolManager and include a launch rehearsal: one-sided RATE liquidity below the opening price, a first buy into the ETH-less pool, then a sell.

Acceptance: 3 swaps in a block pass and the 4th reverts; the next block resets; two pools are independent; swaps through different routers all count; adding and removing liquidity in a full block still works. Document in the README that anyone can fill the 3 slots of a block with dust swaps (cost: gas only) and that the limit is a Sepolia demo of per-block rate limiting, not spam or MEV protection.

Then a small website that shows swaps used in the latest block, a per-block history of recent SwapCounted events with blocks that hit the limit flagged, and a swap form that shows the remaining slots before sending; a swap refused by the limit reverts and emits nothing.

Swaps go through PoolSwapTest 0x9B6b46e2c869aa39918Db7f52f5557FE577B6eEe (it forwards hookData and sqrtPriceLimitX96), prices come from StateView 0xE1Dd9c3fA50EDB962E442f60DfBc432e24537E4C and quotes from V4Quoter 0x61B3f2011A92d183C7dbaDBdA940a7555Ccf9227 (all live on Sepolia). One page, no backend.

Also approved

Sepolia (11155111) only, launched as univ4_hook on the native-ETH pool the factory opens. GitHub publication and IPFS hosting are approved. Launch token: fixed supply of 1,000,000,000, 18 decimals, no constructor arguments, minted to msg.sender, no mint or admin. One hook; enable only the permission flags its logic uses and never revert the factory's pool initialisation or its one-sided seed. Like every hook launch that has gone live, the hook constructor takes exactly one argument, the Sepolia PoolManager 0xE03A1074c86CFeDd5C142C4F04F1a1536e203543; rates, recipients and the token are source constants or learned from the pool key, and there is no owner. Take any hook fee through return deltas (settled as ERC-6909 claims, paid out by pull) instead of assuming a dynamic-fee pool key. Where a swapper identity is needed, read it from hookData; a swap without valid hookData credits nobody (a router can never claim), and hookData is unauthenticated, which the README states. No external oracles or VRF, no proxies, delegatecall or selfdestruct. foundry.toml sets bytecode_hash = "none". Any website is a static export with index.html in dist/. Site label lab-rate-limit-hook.

Build RATE and SwapRateLimitHook exactly as the request specifies, with the named tests and an independent review, deploy them through the factory, then build the one-page website against the live pool.

The website brief

One page: swaps in the latest block, SwapCounted history, swap form via PoolSwapTest. No backend.

Work

  1. Build contract projectAgent #6151 files changed

The deliverable is complete and committed on main as commit 1acabdc. Working tree is clean.

    What was built

    • src/Ratelimit.sol: OpenZeppelin ERC-20, name Ratelimit, symbol RATE, 18 decimals. The constructor takes no arguments and mints the full 1,000,000,000 supply once to the deployer. No mint, owner, pause or proxy.
    • src/SwapRateLimitHook.sol: extends v4-periphery BaseHook, constructor takes only the PoolManager. Permissions are exactly beforeSwap. It keeps a (block, count) window per PoolId, reverts RateLimited(blockNumber) on the fourth swap in a block, emits SwapCounted, and exposes swapsInBlock. Router, sender, size, direction and hookData are ignored.
    • src/HookFlags.sol and test/mocks/MockERC20.sol: the two files the protected admission tests import.
    • script/DeploySwapRateLimitHook.s.sol: a rehearsal with constant configuration. It mines the CREATE2 salt and deploys both contracts. Tests call its functions directly and run() reads no environment.
    • docs/abi/Ratelimit.json and docs/abi/SwapRateLimitHook.json.
    • README.md: assumptions, deployment parameters, operational responsibilities, the dust-swap griefing caveat, and the statement that this is a Sepolia demo rather than spam or MEV protection.

    Verification results

Protected Hook and Token floor tests, run from scratch with the Sepolia PoolManager etched9 passed
    Fuzz tests at 1000 runspass

The tests run against a real v4-core PoolManager and cover the named acceptance cases: three swaps pass and the fourth reverts, the next block resets, two pools are independent, swaps through three routers and from three senders all count, a batch of four swaps reverts as a whole with no state change, liquidity add/remove and donations work in a full block, and the launch rehearsal with a one-sided RATE seed below the opening price, a first buy into the ETH-less pool, then a sell.

    One decision worth knowing

v4-periphery deleted BaseHook in February 2026 and moved it to a separate repository. Because the approved workflow names the v4-periphery BaseHook, I vendored v4-periphery at the last commit that ships it. The file is identical to the moved copy apart from one import path. All dependencies are committed as plain files with pins recorded in lib/VENDORED.md, and no submodules or nested git directories remain.

    Left to later stages

The manifest, independent review, source publication, attestation, factory deployment and the website are separate assignments. The manifest must declare the permission set as beforeSwap only, flag mask 0x0080, decimals 18, and the Sepolia PoolManager as the single constructor argument.

    Refused 4th swap–63,790–

The first and third swap of a block cost the same when each is its own transaction, because the packed window slot is never zeroed and the reset and the increment are both a 2,900-gas write. Inside one batched transaction the 2nd and 3rd swaps cost 4,091 extra instead of 11,630. The callback frame itself is 24,911 gas once per pool, 7,812 on later transactions, and 3,012 when warm, all well under the 50,000 target.

Two harness artifacts worth knowing about. This Foundry build runs tests isolated by default, so every top-level call is a whole transaction with the 21,000 intrinsic gas included. It also routes new in test code through a gas-free cheatcode, so the constructor tests use raw CREATE and CREATE2 to measure real deployment costs of about 722,600 and 725,700 gas. The report explains both.

    Files delivered

    • test/GasReport.t.sol: 37 tests, one per public function plus the hooked-vs-unhooked and batched comparisons.
    • .gas-snapshot: 77 lines, regenerated after the scratch suite was removed.
    • artifacts/gas.md: size table, swap tables, callback breakdown, per-function tables, and notes.

The artifacts/ directory is listed in the repository's local git exclude file, so it was force-added to make the commit contain it.

Dust lockout costs 3 wei plus gas, or gas only using the initial empty-liquidity direction. This is an accepted design limitation.

Static review only; gas was not benchmarked. Implementation files remain unchanged.

    • lowThe unconditional whole-transaction rollback guarantee does not hold for a batcher that catches failuresREADME.md:45

The README, hook NatSpec and manifest notes promise that a transaction batching four swaps reverts as a whole. Only the fourth swap's call frame and its descendants must revert; an external batcher can catch that failure and commit the first three swaps. Even a router using one unlock can catch the fourth manager.swap failure, settle the first three swaps and return successfully.

The existing BatchSwapper always propagates failures and calls PoolSwapTest.swap separately for each operation, so its passing test establishes neither unconditional transaction rollback nor behavior of an allow-failure batch. The per-pool three-successful-swap cap remains intact; the defect is the advertised atomicity guarantee, which could cause integrations to retain partial execution they expected to roll back.

Qualify the guarantee as applying to batches that propagate the failure, and require propagation in any supported atomic batching integration. Requiring this property for arbitrary callers would need an explicit scope decision: a beforeSwap-only hook cannot force an ancestor to propagate a caught revert.

Use the LaunchRehearsalTest seed: native ETH/RATE, fee 3000, tickSpacing 60, this hook, opening sqrtPriceX96 79061913993278860732495193206006, liquidity 5e23 in [78120,138120), no ETH in the manager and swapsInBlock(id) = (B,0,3).

Fund a batcher with 4 wei.

      In ONE transaction loop i = 0..3, making a low-level CALL with value 1 wei to PoolSwapTest.swap(key, SwapParams(true,-1,4295128740), TestSettings(false,false), hex"").

Retain the success flag rather than propagating failure; require success for i < 3 and require failure for i == 3, then return normally.

      This is ordinary address(router).call{value:1}(abi.encodeCall(PoolSwapTest.swap, (...))).

The first three calls succeed, each consuming its one wei as fee; the fourth returns false with the wrapped RateLimited(B) error.

Expected under the documented unconditional guarantee: the outer transaction reverts, count stays 0, no SwapCounted events survive and no ETH reaches the manager.

Actual from the call/revert paths: the outer transaction succeeds, swapsInBlock(id) = (B,3,0), three SwapCounted events survive, the manager retains 3 wei, and the batcher retains the fourth wei.

The hook never permits a fourth successful swap.

This reproduction is established by source and EVM call-frame analysis; no new executable test was added or run in this read-only review.
