IMD revision (short): HamsterRun match UX

Site: https://hamsterrun-small-paws-big-advent.imd.site/

Contracts unchanged (Sepolia). MatchBook stays challenge → accept (no on-chain auto-match).

Do

Same-band opponent list — for the selected HAM, show other HAMs in the same Stamina band (floor(min(S,9999)/2000)), different owner, not locked; one-click Challenge.

Pending challenges — inbox of Offered matches for this wallet (Accept / Cancel) + deep link ?match=; after Challenge, auto-copy match id/link.

Race stepper — Offered → Accepted → Save seed → Settle (show 1h TTL, +2 block hash, ≥15s).

Core banner — if genesisTimestamp==0, CTA to pinGenesis(); if lagging, keep honest frontier/lag (already OK after pin). Don’t invent work for unknown rounds.

Invite — set real HTTPS inviteServiceUrl in site-config.json; until then show offline, don’t spin forever on “Loading…”.

Polish — Sepolia green dot shouldn’t say “good” when Core/mint reads fail; mint shouldn’t show mintOpen unknown / — / 10000 when RPC is fine; disabled Challenge should say Connect; don’t auto-open wallet sheet on first paint.

Don’t

New MatchBook / auto-queue, mainnet, on-chain referrals, fake Core work.

Done when

Player can pick a same-band rival, challenge, opponent accepts from inbox/link; Core/mint status copy is honest; invite board online or clearly offline.

Work

  1. Posted28 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #36738 files changed

Implemented rival discovery, challenge inbox and links, race stepper, genesis pinning, and honest Core/mint status. Rebuilt dist/; contracts unchanged.

Build, typecheck, 26 interaction checks, accessibility scans, and design probes passed. Invites clearly show offline until a real HTTPS service URL is configured.

  3. Design criticAgent #380found 2 medium, 1 low

I wrote three findings to .imd-findings.json. The design probe (taste@1) could not run: the sandbox stops Chromium from opening the Unix socket it needs, so it exits at startup. The live URL is still serving the previous build (index-HiKiSLuC.js, which this revision deleted), and I wasn't allowed to point the browser at the local dist/. So I judged the new build from its source and the builder's own 390px screenshots.

    Requirements

    • Same-band opponent list (band = floor(min(S,9999)/2000), different owner, not locked): met, chain.ts:321-327 and the Same-band rivals list in Racing.tsx
    • One-click Challenge: met, Racing.tsx:324
    • Pending challenges inbox with Accept / Cancel: met, Racing.tsx:395+ and inboxPage in chain.ts:338
    • Deep link ?match=<id>: met, Racing.tsx:535 with matchLink
    • Auto-copy match id and link after Challenge: met, Racing.tsx:165-217
    • Race stepper (Offered → Accepted → Save seed → Settle, with 1h TTL, +2 block hash, ≥15s): met, Racing.tsx:757-774
    • pinGenesis() call to action when genesisTimestamp == 0: met, App.tsx:792-803
    • Honest frontier and lag: met, App.tsx:777
    • Don't invent work for unknown rounds: met, App.tsx:1014-1022
    • Real HTTPS inviteServiceUrl: needs the requester — a hosted invite service; site-config.json has it set to ""
    • Show offline instead of spinning on "Loading…": met, Invites.tsx:19-21 and Invites.tsx:427
    • Sepolia green dot not saying "good" when reads fail: missing. The header dot is honest but hidden at 1080px wide and below, and the meadow caption dot is always green.
    • Mint status not showing unknown / — / 10000 when RPC is fine: met, App.tsx:357-426
    • Disabled Challenge says Connect: met in the manual form (Racing.tsx:390). The rival rows still don't explain a wrong-network disable (low finding below).
    • Don't auto-open the wallet sheet on first paint: met, Wallet.tsx:28
    • The Don'ts (no new MatchBook or auto-queue, no mainnet, no on-chain referrals, no fake Core work): met

The idea: a pixel-pastel hamster meadow on Sepolia, where you mint a HAM, train it on certified Core work and race same-band rivals. The meadow scene carries the look.

    Findings

    1. Medium (fidelity): the meadow caption hard-codes a green status dot (App.tsx:344). On a phone it is the only dot on the screen, and it stays green when reads fail. Delete the dot and keep the caption text.
    2. Medium (fidelity): the honest "Sepolia · reads online / check reads" label is hidden at 1080px wide and below (style.css:1198). Phone and tablet visitors never see the read status. Remove that rule, and below 720px show just the dot and "Sepolia".
    3. Low (bug): the rival-row Challenge buttons (Racing.tsx:326) go grey with no reason when a connected wallet is on the wrong network. Label them "Switch to Sepolia" or "Locked" from the same state. I couldn't check this in a browser because there was no wallet.

No tracked files were changed. I deleted the browser's stray snapshot and screenshot files from the workspace.

    • mediumfidelity: the only green dot a phone visitor sees is hard-coded "good", even when Core and mint reads failweb/src/App.tsx:344

Now: the meadow caption always renders status-dot good (green). The honest Sepolia read-health dot in the header (App.tsx:284, driven by readsHealthy) is set to display:none at max-width 1080px (style.css:1198), so on a phone or tablet this hard-coded green dot is the only status dot on the first screen, and it stays green when snap.isError, mintError or a Core identity failure makes readsHealthy false.

Change to: delete the dot from the caption, leaving the text alone: <span className="scene-caption">A tiny world. A fresh start.</span>. The caption's left edge moves in by the dot's width. Then the brief's Sepolia dot is only ever the computed one.

Why: the brief says "Sepolia green dot shouldn't say 'good' when Core/mint reads fail". A decorative status dot that is always green says exactly that.

      Width 390.

Load the play view while Sepolia reads fail (block the RPC, or force snap.isError).

Expected: no green status dot, or one tied to readsHealthy.

Actual: the header network label is display:none at <=1080px (style.css:1198), and the meadow caption still shows a green .status-dot.good next to "A tiny world.

      A fresh start."

The builder's own artifacts/screenshots/play-390.png shows the green caption dot and no Sepolia label in the header.

    • mediumfidelity: honest Sepolia read status is hidden at every width up to 1080pxweb/src/style.css:1198

Now: inside @media (max-width: 1080px) the .network-label ("Sepolia · reads online / checking / check reads", App.tsx:279-293) is hidden, so phones, tablets and small laptops never see the network or whether reads are healthy. This is the label the revision fixed so it no longer claims "good" on failure.

Change to: delete this display: none rule. At <=720px, also drop the words and keep the dot plus "Sepolia" (.network-label .reads-text{display:none}, wrapping "· reads online" in that span) so it fits beside Connect wallet. The wallet button stays where it is.

Why: the brief asks that Core/mint status copy be honest. A status that most visitors cannot see does not deliver that. Header utilities belong at the right edge on every width.

Width 390 (and any width up to 1080).

      Open the play view.

Expected: a Sepolia status with its reads state at the header's right edge.

Actual: the header shows only the logo and "Connect wallet" (artifacts/screenshots/play-390.png, and the live site at 390, where document.querySelector('.header-actions').innerText === "Connect wallet").

    • lowbug: rival-list Challenge buttons go disabled with no reason on the wrong network or a stale readweb/src/Racing.tsx:326

Now: each listed rival has a button whose label is always "Challenge". It is disabled whenever canChallenge is false, meaning a connected wallet on the wrong chain, a stale snapshot, or busy. The manual form button nearby switches its label to "Connect" (Racing.tsx:390), but these buttons never explain the disabled state.

Change to: label the button from the same state: {!canWrite ? "Switch to Sepolia" : pet?.locked ? "Locked" : "Challenge"}, keeping aria-label Challenge HAM #id.

Why: the brief says "disabled Challenge should say Connect", meaning a disabled Challenge must name what is missing.

      Width 390.

Connect a wallet that owns a HAM while it is on mainnet (chainId 1), so canTransact is false (App.tsx:85).

      Open Same-band rivals.

Expected: each disabled button says what to do (switch network).

Actual: by the code at Racing.tsx:324-331, every row shows a greyed "Challenge" with no reason.

Not exercised in a browser here: no wallet was available.
