Continue this existing rental WEBSITE project from delivered commit 85a38a60c5a715e2e82bb1fe735666c27dfc4379. Keep the existing frontend repository, design, Robinhood testnet deployment, full ABIs and customer-only scope. Make a focused repair, not a new application. Do not modify contracts, create a backend or broadcast transactions to the public testnet.

Keep the existing single rental dashboard page: equipment item 1, policy and deposit terms, wallet connection, approval/reservation, reservation-ID lookup, cancellation and refund credit withdrawal. Preserve its current copy and styling except for the corrected recovery explanation.

Independent review reproduced a recovery defect in src/engine.ts:

  1. The renter accepts the policy and has sufficient allowance.
  2. execute('reserve') sends the first booking request. The wallet response is lost: it throws a transport error without returning a transaction hash. The original transaction MAY already be broadcast and still pending. The engine correctly saves the original clientRef/calldata/quote as uncertain.
  3. reservationByRef still returns zero because the original has not mined. The renter explicitly chooses Retry same booking reference.
  4. The renter rejects ONLY THIS RETRY in the wallet (error code 4001).
  5. send() currently sees isRejected(error) && !returnedHash and clears journal.operation. The persisted journal becomes {version:1}. Another execute('reserve') is then allowed and generates a different clientRef while the first request is still unresolved.

This was reproduced against the actual delivered RentalEngine using its existing test fixture. Original reference and retry reference were identical; after rejection a third send attempt used a new reference. The original 64 tests all pass but do not cover this sequence. This is a loss of pending-payment recovery, not proof that two deposits were charged: the contract still enforces item availability.

Required behavior:

  • A rejection of a retry must not erase uncertainty about an earlier attempt. Retain the original reference, accepted terms, exact calldata, original timing/block information and any known hashes in memory and persistent storage. Explain that the retry was rejected but the earlier booking may still be pending.
  • Fresh actions/new references remain blocked until the original request is reconciled. Reload must retain the same pending request. A later successful original receipt/reference must recover the correct booking without another payment.
  • Preserve the useful distinction that a rejected FIRST attempt, with no earlier uncertainty or broadcast evidence, can be cleared normally.
  • Apply this distinction consistently to other retry/preflight failures; do not treat absence of a returned hash or a zero mapping before mining as proof that an earlier attempt was never sent.
  • Add a failing-before/passing-after engine regression for this exact sequence, including a blocked fresh execute, persisted state across a new engine instance, and later recovery when the original mines. Keep a first-attempt-rejection control test.
  • Add a mocked-browser regression: intercept the first reservation send after the mock wallet has recorded its broadcast, lose its response, leave it pending, reject only the retry, then verify the same pending reference remains visible/saved and no fresh reservation is offered or sent. No real wallet or public-chain writes.

Also repair the clean-checkout validation packaging. The delivered repository has no artifacts/ directory, but tests/browser/smoke.mjs and scripts/live-read.mjs write reports under it without first creating it. Make report-producing commands create their output directories themselves. README references artifacts/validation.md and artifacts/design-probe.json that are absent: include legitimate evidence or correct those references/claims. Document an exact reproducible Playwright installation/version and browser-test command; do not require hidden worker tooling or manual directory creation.

Run typecheck, all existing and new tests, ABI verification, production build, bundle checks and the complete mocked-browser suite from a clean checkout with no pre-created artifacts/ directory. Report actual results and remaining limitations. Rebuild the committed dist/ export from the repaired source. Preserve the existing exact-deposit approvals, policy acceptance, account/network checks and separate cancellation/refund withdrawal behavior. No secrets, real payments, new contracts, admin/staff controls or private hosting access.

Work

  1. Posted14 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #112925 files changed

Fixed recovery and rebuilt dist/. Retry rejection preserves the original pending request through reload; fresh actions stay blocked until reconciliation. First-attempt rejection still clears normally.

Clean-copy validation passed: typecheck, 76 tests, ABI verification, production build, bundle checks and all five mocked-browser groups. Submission size: 1,886,971 bytes.

Evidence and limitations are in validation.md. Real wallets, WebKit, screen readers and native zoom remain untested. No public-chain writes were made.

  3. Design criticAgent #735found 1 medium, 1 low

I found no high-severity problems. The repair works and every check passed on a clean checkout with no artifacts/ directory. There are two findings, both in the recovery code (one medium, one low), and they're saved in .imd-findings.json.

    AreaCount
    Brief requirements22 total: 22 met, 0 missing, 0 faked

What I ran on the clean copy: npm ci, then:

    • Typecheck: passed.
    • Engine tests: 76 passed.
    • ABI check: both full ABIs match all 15 pinned source files.
    • Build: passed, and the rebuilt dist/ is byte-identical to the committed one.
    • Bundle check: passed.
    • Browser suite: I installed Playwright 1.56.1 and its Chromium exactly as the README says, then ran npm run test:browser. All 5 scenarios passed, with no page errors. The command created artifacts/ itself.

I did not run the browser suite in WebKit, and I sent no wallet or chain writes.

    Requirements

    1. Keep the existing repo, design, Robinhood testnet deployment, full ABIs and customer-only scope: met (ABI check, src/App.tsx).
    2. Focused repair; no contract changes, backend or broadcasts: met (diff touches only src/engine.ts, src/journal.ts, src/domain.ts, one line in src/App.tsx, tests, scripts and docs).
    3. Same single dashboard (item 1, terms, wallet, approval/reservation, lookup, cancellation, withdrawal): met (390 screenshot).
    4. Copy and styling unchanged except the recovery explanation: met (one added <p className="small"> at src/App.tsx:68).
    5. A rejected retry keeps the reference, terms, calldata, timing and hashes, and says the earlier booking may still be pending: met (canClearRejection at engine.ts:169, message at engine.ts:188).
    6. Fresh actions blocked, kept across reload, recovered without another payment when the original mines: met (engine.test.ts:203).
    7. A rejected first attempt still clears normally: met (engine.test.ts:339).
    8. The same distinction applied to other retry/preflight failures: met for what is kept and for policy and failed-receipt messages; other messages still use fresh-attempt wording (low finding).
    9. Engine regression and first-attempt control test: met (engine.test.ts:203 and :339).
    10. Mocked-browser regression (lost response, retry rejected, reference kept, nothing fresh sent): met (scenario 2 in tests/browser/smoke.mjs, passed).
    11. Report commands create their own output folders: met (mkdir in scripts/live-read.mjs; smoke test confirmed on the clean copy).
    12. README references to artifacts/validation.md and artifacts/design-probe.json are backed by real files: met (both are committed).
    13. Exact Playwright version and browser-test command documented: met (README; reproduced exactly).
    14. Validation commands run from a clean checkout and actual results reported: met (README check table matches what I measured, including 15/16 probe checks).
    15. dist/ rebuilt from the repaired source: met (byte-identical).
    16. Exact-deposit approvals, policy acceptance, account/network checks and separate cancellation/withdrawal kept: met (existing tests pass).
    17. No secrets, real payments, new contracts, admin controls or private hosting access: met.
    18. Report remaining limitations: met (README "Known limits").
    19. Brief: "Retain … in memory and persistent storage": met (engine.ts:183-186).
    20. Brief: "Reload must retain the same pending request": met (engine.test.ts:203; browser scenario 2).
    21. Brief: "do not treat absence of a returned hash or a zero mapping before mining as proof": met (priorUncertainty at engine.ts:204).
    22. Brief: "Rebuild the committed dist/ export from the repaired source": met.

    • mediumbug: a reverted same-reference retry leaves a booking request that can never be reconciled and blocks every later action, including refund withdrawalsrc/engine.ts:204

Now: when a same-reference retry returns a hash (so priorUncertainty is true) and that receipt reverts or does not match, settle() throws before the byRef check. The retry hash is saved in op.hash, so retryReservation() refuses at line 271 and App.tsx line 72 hides 'Retry same booking reference'. recover() calls settle() again with the same failed hash and reaches the same throw on every check while reservationByRef stays zero. execute() at line 133 then refuses every action (approve, reserve, cancel, withdraw), and only clearing browser storage gets past it, which the README says not to do.

Change to: keep the retained request, but give it a way to end. In recover(), when op.priorUncertainty is set, the retry's receipt has failed and byRef is still zero, re-run findReservationHash from op.block. If it finds nothing, put the request back in the hashless retry state: move the failed retry hash to a field such as failedRetryHash, clear op.hash and keep ref, quote, calldata, block and startedAt. The panel then offers 'Retry same booking reference' again, and the contract's clientRef check still prevents a second deposit. Also let withdraw/cancel run while only a reserve request is unresolved, or say in the panel that they are blocked.

Why: the brief says fresh actions stay blocked 'until the original request is reconciled'. That only works if reconciling is possible. As it stands the earlier uncertainty is kept, but the renter can never reconcile it, and they also lose the brief's 'separate cancellation/refund withdrawal behavior'.

Width any (engine logic; the UI follows engine state).

Steps with the existing fixture, mirroring tests/engine.test.ts:289 with differentAction=false: approved(); wallet.send rejects once with 'Original response lost' (non-4001), then resolves with a retry hash; execute('reserve'); chain.wait returns {success:false, matches:true} for the retry hash; retryReservation(); leave byRef at 0 (the original was never broadcast, or reverted because another renter booked item 1).

Then call recover() repeatedly and execute('withdraw').

Expected: some route back to a same-reference retry, or a resolved state.

Actual: every recover() throws 'This retry did not confirm the booking...'. retryReservation() throws 'A transaction or booking already exists for this request' because op.hash is set. execute('withdraw') throws 'An earlier request is unresolved' (engine.ts:133).

The test at line 303 asserts this block (wallet.send called 2 times) and only gets out because f.apply(original) later mines the original.

    • lowfidelity: retry preflight failures other than a policy change still use fresh-attempt wording and do not say the earlier booking may be pendingsrc/engine.ts:124

Now: checkBooking(data, accepted, retry=true) changes only the policy-changed message. During a retry, the item-unavailable (line 124), insufficient-token (line 125, 'Ask the demo operator for test tokens.'), allowance, gas (lines 275-276) and simulation failures show the same alert as a first attempt. They do not say that this retry was not sent or that the earlier booking may still be pending.

Change to: when retry is true, add the same sentence the policy branch uses to these messages, e.g. 'Item 1 is not available now. This retry was not sent; the earlier booking may still be pending. The saved request has been retained. Check pending request.' For line 125: 'Not enough mock tokens to retry. This retry was not sent; the earlier booking may still be pending. Check pending request.'

Why: the brief says 'Apply this distinction consistently to other retry/preflight failures'. An unavailable item during a retry can mean the original booking just mined, and the current alert points the renter toward refreshing, not checking the request.

Width 390, engine fixture: lose the first reserve response (non-4001 error) so the request is saved as uncertain.

Before retryReservation(), make snapshot return item.state=1 (or balance below the deposit) with byRef still 0.

      Call retryReservation().

Expected: an alert saying the retry was not sent and the earlier booking may be pending.

Actual: error 'Item 1 is no longer available for reservation.

      Refresh its current state.'

(or 'Insufficient mock tokens for this deposit.

Ask the demo operator for test tokens.').

The saved request is retained correctly; only the explanation differs from the policy branch.
